05 D3 LOW coolant message |
|
Hi on my 05 D3 I have a LOW coolant message , this only appeared after doing an ECU update with GAP 11,
I was sure to use the pre 2007 update , I have disabled the Low coolant message on the ccf with GAP ,
But it still shows up after startup for a few seconds , the coolant level is fine so I assume its the sensor in the expansion bottle , But why this would appear immediately after doing the ECU update is puzzling me .

It’s the float it the tank. You can get replacements off eBay.
The gap logic to disable maybe wrong.
Try enabling it! and let us know what happens!

I had exactly the same on my 2005, i changed the header tank and all it solved the problem. I think that the message may have not appeared in the early models or somebody programmed it out in the past but when you install the later software it adds it back in. Andrew

Correct answers above - from what I've heard (and I could be wrong, but even so it's a good story) LR were aware of the the tendency for the floats to sink in the early cars and simply disabled the low coolant warning.
Updating the software re-enables the low coolant warning, which then comes on every time you start the car as the float in the tank has absorbed coolant and sunk. Don't be fooled by the coolant level sensor (part number PCJ500030) - you need to replace the entire bottle (part number LR020367). Not a hard job, just a few jubilee clips on pipes and a couple of bolts. And a few litres of coolant to top up after it inevitably spills everywhere!
Well worth doing - I replaced mine after updating the software, and a few months later I had a genuine low coolant situation whilst in the middle of nowhere, and the car warned me just in time. I keep a bottle of coolant in the car just in case so I got home with no issues, but it might have been a different story if I hadn't replaced the bottle! D3 2005 HSE

I don’t know how the later cars /software work.
But on my early car I get a brief coolant low message, which then goes away and. I am left with a i>
Both of which can very easily be missed! Even more so if you are displaying one of the trip computer read outs.
Do later software versions bong?
Or leave the message up?

Thank you all for the replies , so it will be a new bottle then , I certainly don't want any genuine missed warnings .
