Is the oil pump casing 'needed' on an '05 plate though? I thought it was only later models?

Funny that the oil pump has cropped up... I called SpannerMonkeys, who are a Land Rover specialist in Washington, today to get a quote for the belts/service and mentioned that I wanted the water + oil pump changing at the same time. The first thing they asked was had I been on here? Smile

They sounded knowledgable though and are calling me back later after they have looked into whether my car needs it or not.

I'm erring on the side of the no warranty but save a little each month brigade at the mo Smile

I've seen advice for and against on early models, but given the major part of the cost of a belt change is labour, and the pump casing is £95!!!! Against 5-10K for a blown engine....

I'm closer to the changeover since mines a Sept 06 and the belts were changed before I bought it. Given a choice now I would have the casing changed.

I'm sure the more knowledgeable will put me straight.

Mines 10yo and I've just renewed worth wd for 3 years at 1480quid.... no betterment clause. Covers for wear and tear, mot fails, service identified problems.... even accommodation and hire car if in the garage for over 8 hours. 24k miles per year and max total mileage of 130k (I'm at 93k)

Had a claim for suspension ecu which cost £457..... I paid 50 of that. So already I've got the best part of a third back.

Tc is 2 grand, autobox, 3 grand, compressor 450.... If I was so unlucky, that's nearly 4 times the cost of the warranty

3 years of relatively low worries

Do you know you can get a

Warranty ?
I believe most of those providing them will insist on a garage test before they commit o providing one....
The reason being that they aren't going to provide on without a test - then you make a claim.
The LandRover / Jaguar warranty primer does insist on the inspection. You can see why
 BREXIT - done properly.

D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

Just to update, I have ended up taking a Securecare Lite policy with WD which seems like a good compromise. It covers you if the vehicle actually breaks down, at home or on the road.

Coverage seems pretty good and includes wear and tear so long as you've had the MOT/service done at a VAT registered garage and everything is up to date. Total cost was £320 or thereabouts for 3 years cover. I couldn't remove the betterment due to the age/mileage of my Disco so I'd pay 50% of the parts but they will pay up to £272/hour labour and you can claim up to 5 times per year up to the cost of the vehicle. There's a £50 excess on a claim also.

Didn't sound too bad so went for it for some peace of mind...thanks everybody that replied for the advice.

£272 an hour? I don't pay my senior partner solicitor that much!
Joking aside, if your paying less than £100 a year, I'd be wondering whether they'd pay out for anything, as that's more the price of AA/RAC membership.
