OK, I know there's been several posts on here about tyre/wheel choice but trying to nail the answer down is difficult 
I've just got some 17" wheels and want good off road tyres on for the Tong day in 2 weeks. I don't intend keeping them on full time so I only need to buy based upon off road capability.
I've narrowed it down to the following: Cooper STT, GG AT2 or Goodyear Wrangler MT/R. I don't believe BFG do a 17"er (but correct me if I'm wrong)
I would relaly appreciate some advice from those who've actually run them or know someone who has.

I currently have STT 245's on , but I will go for BFG for the next set . (Yes you do get BFG in 17 ")

I'd like to try the KL71 but I've got 18" rims and I think they don't come higher than 17". Unless a new size is developed in the next 8 months, I'll be switching my second set of wheels to Goodyear MT/R.

Bought some 17" alloys ages ago, & they're still sat in the shed waiting for the tyres to arrive.
Has anyone tried the 17" MT/r's ? Long succession of Disco's since 2001...

Have look on Camskill in their offroad tyre section pics there , they have two types Buckshot & Bighorns .Bighorns are the more aggressive patterned .If you like I can take a few shots side by side with a Cooper STT as a comparison .Mine are palleted in the shed at the mo.I think Barry's still running his since we both got them earlier this year.

I ran AT2's (18") on my old TD5 and had them on all the time. They were great - can highly recommend them
My only concern is that the D3 is a totally different vehicle to the TD5 and whilst they were great on road on the TD5 would they be as good on road on a D3, given the extra power, substantially quieter engine and much better handling?
However, this won't be a problem if you're not keeping them on all the time.

I can answer that one...
The AT2's are easy to live with. I prefer them to (worn) wrangler hp's
I've done about 25k on them now, and theyre now down to about 6-7mm and just starting to get a little noisy (slight whine). Long succession of Disco's since 2001...

You can look at Bridgestone dueler's as well. I run a set of
265/65/17 D 694 AT's, as they are the same diameter as
the stock tires. D3 bullbar-spots-roof rack with spots-ladder-long range tank-swing out spare wheel carrier- upgraded tow bar-dash console-internal water tank-duel awnings-drawer system & T T.
