I'm looking at acquiring an early Disco-4. At that end of the range, I see some of the cars with the 2,7 engine and some with the 3.0 engine. Aside from the 0.3l difference in displacement, can anyone give me feedback on the differences between the two engines/ Is a late 2.7 better than an early 3.0 just because of the design being more mature?

3.0 absolutely transforms the car. Much better at overtaking!
Have to watch out for the smoking when booting the throttle caused by oil accumulating in the turbo. Easy fix though. Fuel use is similar!!!! 2023 Ineos Grenadier 3.0 Diesel Commercial

3.0 is much better than the 2.7 in every way, from a non-maintenance point of view
And....from a maintenance point? You made me curious...

Thanks Dave, did a little research and confirms you are correct. I'm in the search for 2010 D4 3.0 GS. Fancied the 8 speed but out of my budget as later MY.

I have heard it suggested that at some time LR/Ford introduced modifications to the bottom end to alleviate the problems s with crankshafts & bearings.
Does anyone know what exactly has been done & when in terms of both dates & VINs please?
