With your D3 [MY 05] you would probably get away with running 285/50/20.
That would give you a slightly higher sidewall than on the 255/55/19.
The speedo would also run bang on.
I used to run them when I had my [MY05] D3 and there were absolutely no rubbing issues...... and no tramlining!
[there would be rubbing though on later D3s and D4s - due to an extra outrigger added to the chassis].

Cheers guys, I think the 19's might be the best compromise. Wish I had found this site before buying the 18's

I preferred 18” rims on all my Discovery’s, but 19”s are a good all rounder.
20”s with 255-55-20 tyres have the same tyre wall depth as 255-55-19*. However the former isn’t a standard size tyre for the D4 (D3 was never homologated for 20”s) so you need to inform your insurers if you fit them on a D3/4.

If it helps, mine came with 20s, and Grabber AT 275/45/R20 tyres.
Never rubbed, and I think look good (this is mine now)
However, there's not much sidewall, and even kerbs could damage the wheel, let alone rocks.
Ideally I want to downsize to 18's (as I also think this suits the look of the discovery for my own taste), but that needs to wait for funds. (below is the look I'm going for)

Hahaha, is that a usual Discovery owner thing, to have spares lying around?
I'm only 18 months into ownership and feeling like I'm going to build up quite a stash.
How much would you want for them? And which 18's are they?

You need a set for summer, a set for winter, a set for off-roading and a set in the workshop being refurbished.. anything less and you’re not a real Disco owner
