20" tyre load rating

Guys

I know a few folks have looked at, and some are running RRS 20" alloys, but one question that pops up, apart from will thay fit, is size and more importantly, load rating.

On size, I wouldnt go over 275/45, as lower profile 295/40's would probably give a pretty harsh ride. Also, as most of these alloys would have come off an RR Sport, they've probably already got 275/40 tyres (slight to small for the D3), load rated at 106.

The Disco 3 should have at least 111 load rated tyres. I noticed that you can get General Grabber UHP's in 275/45x20, rated at 110V, and they do at 295/45x20 (slightly too big) rated at 114V.

just thought I'd pass on this info.

Load ratings are the D3's enemy from my experience. trying to find a decent AT tyre is immpossible for the 18''.
However in the interim I have just fitted 285 - 60- 18's 116V its very tight but they do fit. The bonus was I got two for £60 each and two for £112 delivered. Bargain until the tyre companies sort it out Razz

PS my speedo should be exact now according to the conversion charts.

Griff, please forgive my ignorance, but the 285 - 60- 18's 116V , are they fitted to a standard 18" alloy as fitted to my TDV6 SE, or are they fitted to a wider RRS 18" rim, cheers.

I am in the process of getting 20" tyres and wheels(275x45x20 stormers)I have been told that contis 20" are the same as general grabbers as they are the same company, I wonder if this is true?

In the past few weeks I have got to the point of ordering and at the last minute changed my mind over tyre anomaly, but stormers look really well on D3 if you are not doing serious off roading so I have placed order today for them with contis heavy load rating(slightly lower than D3 standard tyre, but I am told this is acceptable) Confused

I dont know whether Conts and General are made by the same company, but it doesnt really matter, its the load rating of the actual tyre you buy that you need to be sure of.

With insurer's keen to pick up on anything that means they dont have to pay out in a claim, I wouldnt fit a tyre (as a matter of safety), that didnt meet the minimum spec. If the Conti's are 111H or 111V, go for it.

As I understand it 110 is 1060kg load and 111 is 1090kg load.

Careful gents ....having investigated this subject thoroughly ..you may invalidate your insurance \ warranty if you specify tyres below the specified loading.

Ask your supplier to put in writing that they are recommending the tyre knowing that its below rating.........I don't think you will get a positive response. Wink

In Oz the tyres must be accordance with the tyre placard (on the drivers door).
For my 2006 SE TDV6 it clearly states that the mininium load rating is 109 (1030 kgs). It does recomment 111 however.
To be legal, the Speed rating in Queensland is as per Transport Department regulations, for a 4WD it N (140 kph) and the load rating as per the manufacturer's placard.
Therefore legal tyres in Queensland for my D3 are. Loading 109, Speed Rating N. Diameter +15mm - 25mm. There are a number of other requirements on width, wheel offset and track changes.
