20 years an Owner
So 20 years on now who on here still has their first D3 from new
I remember when the D3 Decade was added to some, for them owning theirs for the first ten years.
The one for sale on here triggered me into thinking along these lines.

I think Uncle Ray still has his. Not quite 20 but it’s an 05 reg. I’m not 100% sure it’s still going just now, but I saw him in it back in the summer.

As the one who placed the D3 on sale on the site that Glynne mentioned and which I sold this evening, there was a level of sadness in seeing it being driven away after owning it for so long.
I was in my 20th year of ownership and it was never my plan to keep it this length of time. There was never a financial reason as to why I could not have sold it and bought another vehicle at any stage.
The reason why I kept it so long was that it was such a great vehicle and it was difficult to identify what it should be replaced with.
I should perhaps add that the key to owning a D3 of this age is having a Land Rover Specialist who has considerable experience of servicing and maintaining D3 that you can use. Fortunately the person who purchased my vehicle has been using the same Land Rover Specialist that I have used.

Hi Gareth, yes - one of the weak points of all variants (not forgetting sunroof drain tubes!!!). Had the sills replaced at the first sign of the red stuff, but apart from that nearly 200,000 miles of relatively trouble-free motoring. As Zig said - key is keeping on top of any small issues (before they become big), don't scrimp on repairs and servicing and find a really good independent who specialise in Land Rovers.
It's sadly (no idea why) my daily drive any more as the fleet has expanded, but still gets about 10-12K miles a year added.
Next time I get it cleaned, I may post a side-by-side pic as it has "evolved" a little.
Here's to the next 10??????D3 HSE V8...

Of course! We’re all getting older now. I still remember when my D3 YE54 DVA was delivered to my house on a trailer like it was yesterday. 29th Nov 2004. The driver had no idea about the car, and just handed me the keys and said good luck! 😮
Not showing up on any DVLA searches anymore, so probably gone to the big scrap yard in the sky.
Well done Mossy. 20 years is dedication.

I think it was AndrewS who said something about the D3 being the best of the more recent crop of Land
Rovers and he's certainly had a few and pushed them to the limits - I have to agree.
I was never going to go D4 just for the newer facelift and tweaks (oh and they dropped the V8 UK), but promised I'd have a look at the D5. Sadly, I tried to like it, test drove a few, and even took a few off road courtesy of JLR, but, but, but...... ONLY in my opinion - damn it sure is ugly to me!
New Defender looked promising, and is a fine looking vehicle, but to spec it up to where I'd be happy I couldn't justify the price when I could do the same in the "bought and paid-for" D3 - lugging kids around, camping, ferrying exhibition stuff about and when occasionally washed and polished, offer almost limousine-like transport for ferrying the odd client around. I have other cars now for day-to-day and the wife's Mazda for everything else, but the D3 remains my go-to vehicle for when you just need to smile!

Glad yours is still running Ray.
Not quite twenty years but have had my D3 over sixteen now. Ticked over 195,000 miles the other day on a spirited run along Harry Metcalf’s test route, which has become a regular commute.
Every time I think about replacing it with something sensible, something happens like needing to drive at night through the recent floods and I can’t imagine not having “the Land Rover”!

I had mine since new, 6A MY, for 18 years and 390.000 km…and it left, and It went through a lot of sadness, and he left strongly and is greatly missed, I don't know if it was because of him or because of the years I lived with him, which were many and very good, but like with loved ones, the time comes when you have to let them go!! The one who has come will be very good too... another time, another place... I don't regret anything!..
never mentioned here, if we are missing something...only my manual transmission...I don't know why that has been lost...a new Defender with D250 and manual transmission would be great, have you thought about it?lost in translation!
