Well, I thought it was all fixed after its last visit to the dealer 4 weeks ago. The car has only done 3k
Basically, after 20 or so miles on the motorway, a slight steering shake shake sets in. This gets worryingly severe if you touch the brakes, which by this time are ultra sensitive and with a hard pedal.
It gets worse to the point that you have to leave the motorway (or as I had to do today, stop on the hard shoulder) Now here is the really odd thing, if you switch it off, and then back on again, its all immediately back to normal despite the glowing disks. It will then go bad again after another 10 miles or so.
So, after the 3rd stop/restart today on a trip back from Halifax, I took it straight in to GS and went out for a test drive with one of the technicians. Thankfully after about 10 miles it repeated for him and he was quite surprised how serious it was as we headed for the hard shoulder!
So, another few days in a Freelander, another set of new brakes, and hopefully now they have experienced it, a permanent fix.
Its really difficult trying to explain a problem to a receptionist who does not know anything about the workings of a modern car, especially when I know more than her, and she then has to relay what has been said to the workshop. So 10 out of 10 for her for putting the two ends of the chain together and hopefully helping everyone get a speedy and satisfactory resolution.

Freelander?? Surely one if their best customers deserves a FFRR no less.

Listen Derek, I am just glad they had the wheels for me to drive away in.
Anything would have done (well ok, maybe I would have drawn the line at a beemer, but at least i'm mobile)

Andy, its not the brake switch. They changed that out last time it did it less than 500 miles ago.

God help you Del if your beemer ever breaks down. Surely its such a rare event that there would be nobody on earth that could possibly have the experience to fix it?

I suppose the acrid burning smell and smoke trail could lead one to believe they were about to be consumed in a fireball. BTBH I was too focussed on the gap between the lorries, trying to make the hard shoulder....
Seriously though, you can feel the brakes binding, and it feels sluggish, the car rumbles as well.

Best bet is to get to know and strike up a relationship with the Service Manager and deal direct with him!
I've got that with my Service Manager and with absolutely anything, I go straight to him.
I've got his direct line, mobile and email.
In fact I need to contact him shortly to get my 'special price' for the service that's due.
I've even got the dealerships most experienced and best mechanic as the only one appointed to work on my vehicle.
Works a treat I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

Had a similar situation on my D3, same symptoms. I took the pads out and the only fault I could find was the pads were binding on their guides. Cleaned them up and put copper slip on the guides - fault never returned.
That was on a 6 year old car though ....

I'm interested in the outcome/fix because of late I'm not 100% sure the new brake switch has completely cured it on mine either, but it's by no means anywhere near as bad as before - well net yet
