So looking around at a replacement for my D3, like the look of the MY12 D4 HSE, new 8 speed box very nice, but why oh why did they not get the co2 below 225? Seems nuts to have it at 230, i know it does not make that big a difference on a car costing 50k, but you would think they could go the extra mile

irritatingly, they have actually managed to get below 225 with a slightly lower powered engine I think (210bhp? IIRC). Would make sense to have a TDV6 engine with lower emissions and power you would think

Yes, the lower 210bhp TDV6 is down to 224g/km.........
Rumour has it that the new 3 litre diesel electric hybrid engine MIGHT be appearing in the D4 for the 2013 model year, tests with this engine on the RRS have resulted in an 89g/km figure........! 2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

Well, it does exist, it was tested just this weekend gone, in public, at the London-Brighton run over in the UK....... and obviously if installed for the 2013 model year D4 it would be absolutely huge not just for Ireland but everywhere. I doubt it will be any more expensive than the current model in the UK because Land Rover will want to actively sell this to more and more customers...... 2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

remember ALL manufacturers have to offer a "hyrbid" vehicle within their product range by close of 2013 as part of an EU directive or they're barred from the selling in the EU marketplace.
Lots more "hybrid" vehicles coming within the next 12 months

Sounds good but how much boot will it take and how much extra weight?

I suspect the tech will be mounted elsewhere.............
A little bird has mentioned that they are seriously looking at placing the batteries inside the actual chassis rails........which sounds interesting! The body panels will be made of lighter weight materials to compensate, as will the body frame.
Most of the rest of the tech will be compact enough to fit into the floor plan of the vehicle.
However they do it.....it is going to be a nice one for them! There's also talk of a 2 litre equivalent for the Freelander/Defender/Evoque.
I'd also bet that todays announcement of 1000 new jobs at Solihull has a lot to do with the expected "hurry up and get this new engine technology ready" call from HQ! 2016 Discovery 4 Commercial
