2nd battery charging

Not really up on electronics etc so apologies if this is a dumb question.

If a second battery (Dry cell) was sited in the rear luggage compartment is there any way that the towbar electrics either s or 13 pin electrics could be utilized to charge it.

I know some systems have to be quite close to the main battery source to be effective but my thinking is if it can charge a trailer or caravan battery through the towing electrics it ought to be poss in the car itself Question

Hi lespes and while the tow electrics can top off and/or maintain a battery, it is not really suited for recharging a low battery.

How much power are you contemplating using from the auxiliary battery?

Or what are you planning to run off the auxiliary battery?

Looking to just recharge phones pad and run 300 inverter for laptop use maybe a 600 watt invertor if power cons not to bad.
Also bit of back up as work from vechicle in remote locations (well for uk) and know main batt cansoon be drained if not shut down properly.
Have had kone of your sys great but when had freelander this not option and used portable power pack with built in 300 watt invertor which worked fine Also could use in any vechicle but took day and half to recharge from mains
Had been looking at lunar nat power pack but thought some issues if back up is not sited near main batt due to power loss over distance

Hi again lespes and that’s actually potentially a fair bit of power usage.

Just a few hours use will draw your battery down a bit.

If you can work out close to what power you need you might be better off just using a decent battery charger to keep the battery charged between uses.

Other wise, a full dual battery system would probably be the way to go.

This all depends on how often you intend to use the auxiliary battery.

For regular use, I'd be looking at a generator rather than risking battery life...
