2nd battery and constant live in socket
Hi all
So I have fitted a Traxide split charge kit and 2nd battery (65ah) but now am thinking can I run this and also use the constant live in the aux (grey) trailer socket or am I asking too much of the alternator?
Also I have a leisure battery in the back connected to the solar panel on the roof.
Can I wire this in parallel with the 2nd battery with the solar connected as well?
Reasoning being that if I am on a long drive and the solar panel battery needs topping up could I flick a switch to then charge the solar battery from the split charge kit?
If it was possible I am thinking that this is wouldn’t actually work well as the voltage sensing in the relay would see 12v if one battery was fully charged?
A bit random I know but thinking out loud as considering options etc.
Thanks
Baz

I'm not sure if I am understanding your plan correctly, but I think I would run a 12v supply from the second battery to your solar charge controller, with a switch there so that you can choose which source makes the input to the charge controller for the leisure battery.Previously:

The traxide reg will handle a 2nd aux battery connected to it no problem , i dont know why you want to use the trailer socket but it will draw from both/all batteries.. Anything powered from the vehicle system will draw from any batteries connected to the traxide unit right down to 12V at which time it will disconnect.
Solar can be connected to either battery and will charge all connected, i use a folding solar panel connected thru the trailer socket which i put an anderson plug on.

Thanks guys all makes sense.
So traxide unit / aux battery is running the to rear of the car to power the fridge.
I have now acquired myself a trailer tent which will have a battery in it for charging etc which would ideally would charge while connected to trailer socket on the move.
Just didn’t want to potentially be trying to take more than the alternator can supply.
Thanks

That wont be an issue, i don't charge on the move as i have enough solar and battery capacity in my van.
