2nd Oil change after rebuild - some sparkles?

So second oil change following engine rebuild.

New internals and block rehoned.

Done around 2kmiles and 1st oil chg around 1k miles ago.

Found very small pieces in filter. Some look like 2mm long strands of very fine hair (machining debris?) and some other bits maybe around max 1mm^2.

Pieces are magnetic.

Maybe 20 or so scattered across filter in total.

Is this normal during bedding in or is it terminal?

Almost too small to take pics but will add some here

Was the block cleaned properly after the bores were honed? What else was machined?

I cant say how well it was cleaned … but from my experience with this hack job I am surprised I did not find some bolts in the filter.

Heads were also rebuilt new valves etc

Who did the engine rebuild please? I have posted this question in your other thread:-

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/replaced-co...58-15.html

On 17th April 2022 in that thread CIO wrote:-

Your response on the same day was:-
Quote:
At this stage Id rather not say as we still in the phase of rectifying some “issues”.

Presumably those issues have now been resolved; can you please now tell us who did the rebuild; and your options regarding the job?

PM me …

The issues have been ongoing and car is out of its 6m warranty.

Less said at this stage the better. Genuinely wish I did the job myself.

Yes it would be very welcome news who did the engine recon.
It may save fellow members a lot of future potential heartache

To be honest have you still got the oil that was removed? Getting that tested would give you an idea of where the issue is as the levels of the metals within the sample can point you to a failing component .

I would only ever contemplate using as factory rebuilt engine as the engine is
too vulnerable to mistakes in rebuilding and the factory rebuilt are as good as, if not better than the original
with 2yr parts and labour peace of mind.

Out of interest were the turbos renewed or at least checked out at the time?

Yes new turbos - well cartridges at least.

Get your point on factory rebuilt - tbh didnt think that was an option - LR wanted to drop in a new motor (as they do).

I still have the oil - ill have it looked at - will send to “The Oil Lab” - anyone used them before?

(Btw these suction oil removers are really great)

They dont have any new motors full stop ,all you can get are factory rebuilt . If the main dealers tell you they are new its a lie.All the new ones were gone long ago.
