Well the Pirelli tyres still have a little life in them so they are still on. We did some towing for the first time nice big trailer with a couple of tons of logs and then some jay and then a load of pallets. I even filled the boot with hay as well. I feel it has now passed probation and I can admit that it is an excellent machine. What really amazes me is that it is averaging 30.1 mpg. I have tended to slow down on the motorway post covid as everyone seems to have done but even so it is better than I expected especially after the last couple of weeks of towing. MoT due in a few months will update then.

We passed the MoT, Mileage is now 144,160. but the week before the intake manifold right bank cracked. Managed to source some pattern parts at a sensible price. I was tempted by some aluminium ones but decided plastic ones with a ten year warranty was probably going to last as long as the car.
I am going to have both replaced. My wife dissuaded me from doing it myself. I did not take that much dissuading!
The inlet crack gets noticeably worse as the engine warms up. Or rather it goes to restricted performance more frequently when the engine is warm.

Really glad I went to C&L Motortech they are my local garage but replacing both inlet manifolds cost £970 including parts and VAT. They quoted £1565 before the job. I asked why it was cheaper and they said we have done a few of these now so we can beat the book time by quite a bit. Anyway it seemed reasonable to me.

Latest little problem. When I accelerate hard about when the thermostat opens I get a low coolant light this stays on. If I drive it the next day it is still on. The water levels are as they should be.
If I then wait for it to cool take the top off the overflow reservoir / expansion tank and run it until the thermostat opens then rev it a couple of times the light goes out.
It is I guess a ball float sensor in the bottom of the overflow reservoir. I could replace the reservoir. However at present I think I will try and work out a way to clean it up a bit. I will let you know if I find a way.

So the issue after a few resets using the method outlined above seems to have reduced in frequency.
Will keep persisting with it as it seems a silly thing to go wrong and recognisable that it is a false reading. If it eventually stops getting stuck again I will let you know

New stories to tell.
Went to Devon in storm Bert so a 600 mile round trip. Very wet we had three days without a low coolant warning then it was back. Sensor still gets stuck, I now have a fuel gauge that after about a mile of filling up it vanished then after about 6 miles it is back. Will try not filling to the very top but I get a range of 486 miles according to the computer when I fill it full. Average mileage is 31.3 mpg incredible!
While wading about in mud and flooded roads in Devon the reversing lights came on. They were out the next day, and we're fine driving home on wet roads and then on Saturday they did it again while going through mud and water. Coming home on the A14 with reversing lights on which must have been confusing for others. Could be fun trying to waterproof the switch, especially as they were out again the next day so success could be hard to judge.
Also the water in fuel light is coming on again from time to time. Filter housing to be replaced next service then.
It does have some new boots on which are Pirelli's I found some that had 6 mm of tread on them which is pretty new and cost £60 apiece. On Saturday it was very wet and muddy on the track which we us to get the middle of the shoot. We needed every bit of traction we could get. Two Defenders one Discovery 3 on some serious offences road rubber and an Isuzu Trooper with a trailer on and very very good mega off road tyres. The Isuzu got stuck then it kept losing its gearbox and had to be switched off and. Restarted to get drive back. The Defenders slithered through and us on basically a semi off road semi road tyre, I did pick my route carefully but we made it and we went through a bit better than one of the defenders. I did select the mud and ruts mode.
Quite proud of the Discovery it really does perform well and even puts extra lights on to show it is working hard!!
