5 days of offroading then nailed |
|
Hi Folks
Spent a great week on the Ben Alder estate near Dalwhinnie, getting the chance to put my D3 through its paces. All I can say is that this is an amazing vehicle. Covered a variety of terrain, from basic rough tracks, river crossings, and more demanding ruts and climbs. With 7 people and lots of climbing gear in the car.....absolutely no problem. Probably not demanding by off road expert standards, but it was new and fun for me.
However, at the end of it all, got a 6 inch nail through the rear nearside tyre when filling up to go home. Nail went through the sidewall so new tyre was required. Had to change to space saver to get me to the garage, whilst being eaten alive by midges! However, on balance not really a hard task despite that.....the jack works quite well so don't really know what others are compalining about.
Got stung for a new Pirelli scorpion though, as the garage charged an extra £25 to get the tyre from Inverness....total was £192 fitted.
A crappy end to a great week, but it's wetted my appetite for more off roading.

Agree about the jack...I changed a front on a dirt track using the OEM jack..twas perfick and quick

What sort of petrol station did you visit for that kind of service?

wasnt a kwik fit replacement was it? if so you can go back to them post payment with proof of an online quote that does local fitting (though a partner) and get the difference refunded.........I managed to get £88 back off them recently after an emergency replacement! 2004 TDV6 HSE Auto Zambezi Silver

Unfortunately not...it was a recovery garage in Kingussie....probably the only garage in Kingussie...in fact the only garage in the whole area who could do 18" tyres.
Nail was picked up near petrol station...not in it, so not claim there either!!!
Also just twanged my plastic areal cover (fin at the rear of the disco roof)....been a great week so far. It's getting replaced at Rossleighs in stockton later this week. Service manager was muttering about roof lining needing to be removed etc. etc. I can see a huge bill coming my way!!!
