5 Seater to modify in a 7 seater |
|
Is it possible? My research in the forum says so far no. Any other news on that?
How much does the extra pair of seats cost in leather. Is it possible to do it yourself? How much would it cost to let it do?
Thanks for your answers

Depends on whether you have 4-CAS or coils - coil sprung models can not be modified to 7 seats LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

If it is a UK equivalent spec 5 seat coiler, then advice from my tech contacts is no, but if it is an air suspended TR equipped 5 seater it should be possible - certainly when I was looking for a G4 there were a couple of RHD 5 seaters knowcking around that I was told by a dealer it should be possible to add the 3rd row module into the boot (but they never gave me a price) Craig

Do not forget to discuss and approve with your insurance company. If not, carrying 7 people in a car approved for five can be a very nasty experience in case of an accident. Some people get by
With a little understanding
Some people get by
With a whole lot more
I dont know
Why you gotta be so undemanding

Hi Mounty,
I think that buying the seats would be the easy part.....don't forget that you'll then need to modify and add the following parts:
Seat belt mounting points, seatbelts, boot floor, airbags, airbag detonators, associated wiring and activation in the car's ECUs etc.
The second row seats would probably also need to be changed for the 30/40/30 folding type (instead of the normal 60/40 split) if not already fitted to allow entry/exit to the third row.
Oh yes, and then you'd need to get it all inspected, certified and approved for use. This could be relatively easy, but I'm guessing that your authorities are even more difficult to reason with than the British ones. (In Spain, things like this need to have engineers reports and type-approvals - it is even illegal to fit driving lights here when the car has Xenon lights and simple things like tow-bars need reports and approvals before being legal).
I know it sounds like a crap answer, but even though it may be technically possible, it really wouldn't be worth the trouble if you ask me... 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

Paul... don't forget the trim will also need changing to allow the newly added airbags to explode safely in an accident too.

Good point Simon....
So that'll mean the rear-side panel trims for the airbags and the seat-belt exit points and also the boot side panels with the seatbelt location cutouts...
Sounds bloody expensive to add a couple of extra seats doesn't it...
Mounty - are you still considering this or have we put you off 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

To me it looks like it cheaper to trade you car in for a 7 seater. Roel
