The AA are not stupid, they have breakdown figures for everything, they are hoping you only need a battery!
Also the car has to of broken down.
I had the cover but no home start, when mine packed up at home they would not progress a claim as the garage where my car was stranded at was too close to my house!!

I have AA breakdown cover for all 3 vehicles - circa £12/month.
Vehicle needs to breakdown/ is going to break down/ need to call out AA.
So far:
D3 - EGR valve replaced
BMW - front caliper refused - water ingress
D3 - Compressor replaced as was showing a fault/ D3 still working normal height only
Defender - battery replaced as wouldn't start/ cold morning
I've been running it for a couple of years now and has been worth it.
