Aaaaaagh!! Hartwells - Billing
Hello All
Need to let off steam! Husbands Defender has been "under the care" of Hartwells since last Summer, it all started off well, they were very attentive etc. until a gearbox whine was detected, vehicle went in for diagnosis and it was decided, after the vehicle had been in for 21 days with no communication and no courtesy vehicle (the Def is essential for my husband's work) that a part and not the whole gearbox would be replaced, to be fair the supply problem of this particular part was due to Land Rover distribution and so after much stamping of feet LR customer service agreed to pay for the service. A service, showroom polish and to extend the warranty was requested of Hartwells (they suggested extending the warranty due to transmission problem should it require new gear box). However the whining got worse so Def was booked in to be repaired in March, Hartwells ring day before it's due in to say they have staff sick can't do it so it is booked in again only for them to call on the morning the Def is due to be dropped off to say staff stil sick! The guy also had the cheek to say "oh has the problem gone away/cured itself" - how professional! Anyway the Def was booked into another dealer who had decided definately new gear box required and guess what Hartwells have not extended the warranty or stamped/signed service book! Land Rover can't do a thing about Hartwells because they are a franchise, so the Defender is in limbo at another dealer and we are looking at a substantial bill thanks to Hartwell's negligence! You couldn't make it up.

I called in to this dealer with loose prop bolts on my Defender last year. We didn't have any spanners with us. The workshop manager told me to go to Halfords to buy some spanners and do it my self I very kindly explained the errors of his ways and the bolts got tightened with in a few moments. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Purchased 04 plate DISCO privately, with a LR Select Warranty.
Booked in last saturday, just awful.
Hang on, are they doing me a favour here, NOOOOO ! I'm a customer....
They berated me for not buying a car from a dealer, I would have the backup then, and if I wanted to take the "gamble" of buying privately then thats my risky choice !!! I informed them that saving £6k was good odds on a gamble...
They charged me to investigate a clear fault..... chuckled at me when i suggested that I'd never been charged previously with other makes.
It was just disappointing........Got our Disco... Love it.....

Its just unbelievable, Land Rover customer service cannot do anything to help and we have evidence that they were told to extend the warranty. How can they operate like this?

If you have evidence contact local trading standards I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

I have suffered with this dealership in the past too, they are awfull.
I had an electrical fault that was corrected by adjusting the cable loom in the drivers door, they tryed to charge me for this as it did not need new parts I was asked to pay for the adjustment! and the car was only 18mth old.
I convinced a Volo driving freind to move to the D3 they went to this dealer to have a look.
The dealer could not produce a car for them to test drive, so they bought another Volvo on the same day.
My fault realy I should have warned them off that dealer.

Mediocrity is rife !!!!!
The question is, who else do I use ? I have an 04 plate with a Land Rover Select Warranty, so i have to use a dealer. The problem will be that whoever I use they wont have sold me the warranty, so will they be interested ?
Any comments on Marshalls or trinity ?Got our Disco... Love it.....

Trinity have been very good and I'd say they are well worth a call Cheers Paul

When my father was alive (god rest his soul) I always wondered why he took his many peugeots some 75 mile round trip for servicing when we had a dealership only 2 miles away.
Now in my 40's I can honestly say that to find a decent dealership, you need to be prepared to travel a bit. I too use my D3 for work, so the odd day off is more than made up for the hasstle free and efficient way the right dealership handles everything the first time.
Take the day off work, get yourself down to The Large One at Yeovil, easy drive, motorway most of the way, warm and efficient welcome, once bitten forever smitten, wouldnt go anywhere else. (even a Premier Inn just around the corner if yer want to be there early), labour rates very, very competitive for us forum members

Hartwells
Before I moved up to Cumbria I also crossed swords with Hartwells, the comparison between Lakeland and Hartwells cannot be described. The bottom line is at Hartwells they are just employees of a large multi franchise company.Smaller family owned firms take pride in what they do!!!If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem!
