Active rear diff?

I currently have a disco 2 and am looking to buy a disco 3. I'm going for a HSE and I want one with the active rear diff. Can someone tell me how I can tell if a disco 3 has an active diff fitted?

Easiest wasy is to look underneith. the locking diff has a little extra motor on it and the one without doesn't.

Do some searceing on this board and there are several posts with pictures even.

easiest way to check is to raise suspension and look under the rear right hand wheel arch. over the top of the diff is an acuator box.

here is a thread - just one of many

Thanks for the help everyone. Great site with loads of info and really interesting reading about the active diff. My search now starts for my new disco. I think I will be looking for the right car first then crawling under it with fingers crossed that it has the active diff fitted! Thanks again and I'm sure I'll be back with more questions when I get my new disco.

if you give the VIN number to an LR dealer they can tell you if the rear locking diff is fitted.

Just put it into one of the modes that locks the diffs up- Rock I think is the one of choice.

If it has active rear diff, then you will get 2 orange lights on the 4x4 info screen.

All the G4's have active rear diff if you wanted an orange car as do the LR Experience Centre demo cars if you want Silver.

Otherwise I think it was an optional extra so will take some hunting down.
