Advice on Android Screen
Sorry guys as I know much of this is covered but after much searching I am still not completely clear as many people seem a bit more adventurous than me! I have an D3 HSE with Logic 7 that I wish to retain. I also like the multi CD player as the kids listen to them via the little panels in the doors, so retaining the headunit is good (and not buried), so am pretty sure I want to just replace the 4x4 screen with an android tablet to provide Nav, plus streaming tunes (connected via Aux) and probably stuff I haven't thought of.
Is there any way of having the 4x4 info on the tablet? - I swear I saw someone who had some software that replicated it but have I imagined that?
What units does that leave with the simplest/neatest install? Got a bit scared with folk reporting unreliability etc.
Do those units behave in an integrated fashion, ie switch on with ignition etc?
With the above setup do you get decent quality wiring hard into the Aux behind the radio?
Thanks2006 Java Black Metropolis - my first dip into the D3 world!

If all you are after is better/working nav, then consider fitting D4 denso nav screen for around £140
to keep that factory look.
If you have an GAP IID you can also add a reverse camera to it

Good shout thanks, however it still leaves me with the slightly rubbish Aux connection if I want to listen to podcasts etc. I might look at using a standard android tablet in the slot instead of the purpose built ones.2006 Java Black Metropolis - my first dip into the D3 world!
I've been using an Ali-Express unit for ages, it's very good.
I did have an initial reliability problem but they sent me a new motherboard and it's been perfect since.
It has the usual Android features and I bought a wireless carplay adapter which I chucked in the glovebox so I now get automatic carplay when starting up.
All steering wheel controls work, volume and track back/forward.
It does wire into the Aux but I find no problem with the sound - it seemed quiet at first but the default Android level is 50% so one I took this to full then the volume on the car head unit works perfectly, and I hear no difference from the radio sound levels.
You lose the 4x4 screen, that's the only downside really.
Here are a couple of pics, complete with dust!

That looks really good. I think that might be the route I go down. Forgive my ignorance but what does the carplay adaptor do? - edit, think I have worked it out. Am an android phone user anyway!2006 Java Black Metropolis - my first dip into the D3 world!

If you are looking for a smarter looking UI, install carwebguru from the play store.
