Advice please!! LRD3 2007
Help and advice please!! Long winded but here we go š
I purchased my d3 in Feb this year and so far it has spent about 5/6 weeks on and off in four different garages! I have been told by several people that this year is the worse model and there will be problem after problem and a complete money pit. I love my car sooo much and my heart keeps overruling my head. To date I have spent nearly Ā£2k since Feb on top of the Ā£6.5k I paid for her.
Work carried out has been fuel pump and filter, oil cooler and water housing, tyres, battery and after all the limp mode dramas and oil and coolant letting go on a dual carriageway and being towed away three times, she has developed the āvehicle Fault, system shutting downā drama! Various codes apparently leading to the instrument cluster. Dashboard goes blank, hazards come on, central locking clicks in and out and no electrics work at all. It can take between 20 seconds and 6 mins for it to wake up and it happened four times yesterday in the space of 8 miles! Highly frustrating being that I only got the car back Friday afternoon having not seen it for 3 weeks AND it had been into Harwoods for 10 days for them to tell my garage that the Fault didnāt happen ....mmmmm... me thinks they did nothing and forgot about my poor car! Anyway, rang them up and complained and itās back in first thing tomorrow and I want answers!
Now, Iāve seen that you can get the clusters sent off and refurbished but Iāve been told that it has to be new and reprogrammed for around the Ā£1k Mark. To be honest I am totally confused and have a headache and have spent far too much in such a short space of time and my head (and everyone else around me) says sell it but I look at her and I get in her and I love everything about her and itās ideal for my work needs but I am just so worried that she wonāt be reliable. I donāt have the endless money pit and maybe Iāve been unlucky in such a short space of time and once this is done, she will be fine for a long time to come yet!
What do I do and what else can I expect?? She has done 131k miles and has had upgraded neon lights and grill fitted along with timing belt, brake pads and has a full service history. Help!!!!!
Thank you in advance, Iām confused šš

If it hasnāt been done get yer oil pump changed as a matter of urgency. When they let go, and yours is the big risk MY, they take the big spiny V shaped thing out with it. Then your car is worth more as a pile of parts.

Would be worth getting a good code reader, then you are more in control and you have the advice of peeps here that know these cars better than LR stealers to help. Symptoms are one part of the picture, codes cal tell you what the car is āthinkingā. If nothing else it keeps you suitably paranoid.

Iāve never been more so paranoid with a car that I love so much and yet is full of problems šš
Where would I get a code reader from and how much are they usually?

With the locking/unlocking and hazards controlling themselves, you certainly have a canbus wiring fault.
Itās difficult to diagnose from what you say, but favourite place has to be the transmission control ecu which lives behind the battery box. The big plug get water in, and corrodes the pins. It can suddenly become an issue when someone jetwashes the engine bay.
Iām sure others will chip
In, but there are several others areas in the loom that could be the problem.
I have a iid blue tooth reader and it is excellent.
I suppose you didn't buy your car from a dealer, and there's no warranty or come back.
I do deal with Harwoods from time to time, and they're OK. BUT I wouldn't take a car of this age to any JLR franchisee ! You need a good independent who specialises in Land Rovers.
You haven't completed your profile, so we don't know exactly where you are, but I can thoroughly recommend :-
If you intend keeping the car, IMHO, you must change the oil pump, if it hasn't been done already.
Good luck; keep us posted.

You can get problems with the dash clusters due to wrong type of solder being used at when they are made. Fords have massive issues with there clusters around that time and i would think that yours is going to be the same.
If you send your dash away for repair you will not need to reprogram it, if you buy another cluster you will

Harwoods are 90% sure itās the instrument cluster. Just short of Ā£1k to replace.
I love the car but unfortunately I canāt afford to keep doing things to it.
If I sell it, how much would I expect to receive if the new owner is aware they have replace it??
Or do I get it refurbished assuming that it hasnāt had it done already, as apparently itās the upgraded fascia?!
