Advice please if you will
Emptied the oil out of the gearbox sump made an improvement but not perfect I’m going to do again probably tomorrow (the oil that comes out smelt burnt and clearly had not been changed probably in the cars lifetime) plan on emptying sump then running car for 5/6 seconds then emptying again, seeing how much come out previously I got about 4 1/2 litres out then replaced with same amount until it started to drip with the car running temperature was around 35 when I’d finished. My big question is if I put in oil until it drips out again with car running will this also fill the torque converter that is if doing it this way I manage to get any out of it or will I only be able to get 4 1/2 litres back in then have to go round block then come back and top up. I’m going to do a quick drive and top up regardless but was just wondering if I will be able to get say if I manage to get 7 out 7 back in. Thanks to all your knowledge is key as I’m learning every day but getting there so far I’ve managed to fix turbo actuator with help from this forum, replace epb what a nightmare that was and make the judder less violent with the help of a quick sump oil drain and fill hopefully next time should see it go all together I’m just trying to get her as right as I can for the land rover show in September thanks all

For refiil you.
Top up oil to the level plug
Start engine. Oil will then be drawn into torque converter
Stop engine
Top up to level
Start engine
Keep topping up oil with engine running
Insert plug
Stop engine

So managed to get about 5ltrs out drained put plug back started waited 6 seconds turned off and about half a litre come out so 4 1/2 from sump then 1/2 from torque disconnected pipe from cooler let it trickle for about an hour and another 10ml come out refilled seems a lot better this time got sludge and it dint smell as burnt as 100miles ago when last I did just the sump

Oh well if transmission is defective worst case it’s a new torque and box but judder has gone and I don’t think the oil has been changed in the cars life worth seeing what happens from now on and changing again in another 300 miles least now I know not to start with an empty box very interesting read thanks for the information
