The fixed bar is not immune from problems.
Another good reason for buying a Tow Trust, the LR fixed towbar locks in place in the same way as the moveable one but has the extra side braces.
That couldn't happen on a Tow Trust as the securing pin is wedged in and secured with a bolt.IID PRO

The advantage of the detachable tow bar is that it's, um, detachable. You take it off, put the plastic cover over the plugs and hey presto, the back of your vehicle looks nice and tidy. There was a recall to check the function of the detachable tow bar socket, from memory a couple of years ago. Some had, for whatever reason become worn. I have a 2010 car and use mine for towing trailers and a medium sized caravan occasionally without any drama. So depending on your intended use, the OEM arrangement might be all you need.
However, if you tow heavy trailers, big caravans, or indeed do a lot of towing, then the clever money is on a fixed jobby.
