Aftermarket GPS hint

Hi,

in case that you don't have luxory to own HSE model but would be intrested to have a GPS in your Disco 3, I think that I've identified now a model that should fit perfectly to Disco 3:

Great is that it:
+ includes huge 5.6" display
+ module is just 2 mm less wide that the space of the original Disco 3 GPS display. It should be possible to install it to look as factory installed !!!
+ height and deepned os the module are perfect
+ price is not too bad at all
+ maps include all European countries

Problems are that no touchdisplay and no battery inside the GPS

I have ordered one and should have it within a week. I will post some pictures then into the gallery.

I have an aftermarket 5.6" nav unit in mine. The only issue I see with the one you've listed is its power input is on one side, so will it still fit in the gap? Mine has all its connections on the back.

Have a look at my gallery if you want to see the fit.

Its an intellinav unit. I got it off ebay, for £300, came with all Europeand USA on CDs. All UK and Ireland were preloaded onto 256Mb CF card.

My was sold as an Itellinav unit, and you're right, that really is the software. It has PL532 as its model number, but its the same as this one on ebay right now. Item number: 5863385564

OK Al, see it there thanks. Could you do me a favour, and let me know if that unit will store as a favourite, or waypoint, a point that is not on a road, i.e. one which is not mapped? If it will, its just what I'm looking for.

I saw one of these units when I purchased my MIO 269+. That display is VERY impressive Very Happy

Mine is still stuck on the windscreen as I can't find a decent bracket for a more permanent solution Sad

I've just looked in the manual, and it looks like the points of interest are set as part of the Maps, and it doesnt give any detail of being able to set your own.

I cant see anything in the users manual that says you can. If I get time, I'll have a look at the intellinav site to see what that says. (or you can if you want).

This is the extract from the manual, and to me, it looks like you cant add POIs that aren't already in the mapping.


Entering a destination by Points of Interest (POI)

* Tap Menu, Destinations, Points of Interest
* Tap one of the categories for Points of Interest
* Select By Distance or By Name
o If you’ve selected By Distance,
+ Select a POI
+ Tap Nav to accept the destination
o If you’ve selected By Name
+ Enter the name of the destination
+ Select a matching POI destination from the list
+ Tap Nav to accept the destination



Entering a destination by Favorites

* Tap Menu, Destinations, Favorites
* Select the destination
* Tap Nav to accept the destination

Entering a destination by Recents

* Tap Menu, Destinations, Recents
* Select the destination
* Tap Nav to accept the destination

Creating a Favorite Destination

* Enter a destination using the Address see above
* From the match list, tap Fav
* Tap OK

- or -

* Enter a destination using the Address see above
* Tap Menu, Recent
* Select a destination
* Tap Fav
* Tap OK



Adding a Label to Your Favorite

* Tap Menu, Destinations, Favorites
* Select a destination
* Tap Edit
* Enter a label using the keypad
* Tap OK
