Air con

Just been for an air con recharge £29 groupon ( cheap enough ) at ATS
No joy it's saying insufficient vacuum
There's my next challenge sourcing the fault
Not to clever on aircon but I kind of suspect a corroded pipe or maybe the condenser
Doing my yearly service on thurs so will have a look around , any pointers as to the places to look
Cheers henda Thumbs Up

It's funny you just know it's going to be the most expensive part or the hardest part to change
Keep thinking buy a newer one but as we all know same problems different colours

Same as mine also at ATS. I’m thinking condenser.

I have found someone who says they can cut my corroded rear pipes and cap them off, then gas the front so I can have cold air again (front only) has anyone done this and where is the best place to cut the rear pipes? I’m thinking as close to the front as possible?

Cheers

Graham

Loads of people have this done. Usually done by fitting a LR pipe from the basic model with front AC only.

Fitted under bonnet
Or one person had it capped in front wheel arch

Cheap condenser linked below. Just fitted one to mine and fits perfectly which is a surprise for such a cheap part

Hi

Thks for that link NC1989 Thumbs Up

I’ve got a leak somewhere in the AC system, haven’t got it in the rear of the disco so that saves me a little time

Have got a low pressure connector and thinking of just putting some dye into the system, got an ultraviolet torch and then see if it is the condenser as reading through several posts it seems a common issue , also notice in that link it also comes with a new dryer

Looks good fun with having to remove the front bumper etc , etc

No worries Thumbs Up

Condenser is the most likely suspect. Mine looked in good condition when in place, but when removed the top and bottom rails just fell off and the back side was in a state. I had 20bar of nitrogen in this thing and couldn’t find a leak, and uv dye which didn’t show anything.

It was only when removed and on the bench in the workshop that you could see evidence of dye on the tops and bottoms of some of the rows where it had corroded and gone porous along the whole length. No wonder I couldn’t hear or see a leak when in position.

1) you need some gas in the system for the compressor to pump the dye around and reach all the parts. And significant pressure for it to leak. bit of a non starter idea I feel.

2) The yellow sticker on the slam panel may indicate dye installed at factory, so you maybe ready to look now.

Professional air con diagnosis is always worth the money. BY AN A/C Specialist. (not some tyre fitter)

You can then DIY change the component and take it back to be gassed
