Air Suspension, Compressor runs on, 'Rusty' Alloy??.

I've just put a deposit on a D3 from a main (non-Land Rover) dealer. They took it in as a part-ex. The only fault I found was that when raising the suspension (when stationary) it goes up okay but the compressor doesn't cut out when it should and runs on for quite a while. It seems the dealer knows about the fault and is going to rectify it before handing it over, but, the reason they gave for it was that the compressor was not mounted properly.. Now, I'm not THAT bothered about it as I'm getting a 3 months warranty with it, but it seemed a strange reason. Is there a more logical explanation, such as some sort of limit or pressure switch u/s?

It's a 2005 'S' and has a satnav. Never had a built-in one before. My wife found 'a CD player' under the front passenger seat. Is this for the satnav data? It was too thin to be a CD multi changer and had the DVD logo on it.. We didn't have much time, hence not a complete examination..

A strange phenomena, a front wheel is corroding where the spokes meets the rim, but it looks like rust... It's certainly granular & reddish brown.. After many BL cars over the years, I think I know what rust looks like.. I thought alloys were made of aluminium alloy..
Thanks for any replies..

Under the passenger seat is the DVD drive for the sat nav. You can buy a newer disc to update the system/maps if required.

The 'S' alloys are very good at picking up brake pad dust / disc metallic bits, which embed in the laquer & go 'rusty'.

This is very difficult to remove from the rims, but can be done (Mr Muscle oven cleaner if you are feeling brave Shocked )

might be a dodgy relay on the compressor; about 2 squid to replace and worth a try Thumbs Up

early rims suffered from the discolouration that you have described, (I had a spare set of 19's that were just like that)
something to do with the top coat laquer I think?
 and theeeeennn......???

Thanks guys. Must say it's reassuring buying a complex motor knowing that there's so much knowledge on tap. I know where I am with a Defender 90.... (Cold, slow & uncomfortable!) Auto notify not working again...

the compressor will run after the vehicle has risen to the selected height until the air tank has built the pressure back up to the set limit this should be achieved within a minute or 2? but if it runs on longer then replace the EAS relay in the under bonnet fuse box. Very Happy

Remember the compressor will run for a time after height to recharge the air tank.

The timing and temperature settings for the compressor can be adjusted by a main delaer or I guess a Faultmate user Thumbs Up

Could be a compressor or a leak or a valve block fault. make sure they have fixed it properly.
