Airbag/strut wear

As far as I know my D3 is on it's original struts and airbags. At 148k miles and almost 12 years old is there likely to be a benefit in renewing them? When I drove a d4 last year, the ride seemed a bit more smooth and plush, would this be due to age or are there upgraded suspension parts in a D4? I have no leaks and I am not aware of of any issue with my suspension but as the decline in ride quality would be gradual it might be hard to detect a loss of performance. I tow a caravan so want the ride and body control to be the best it can be. Anyone have any views or experience to help make a decision?
TIA

Hi

Mine was also on its original front struts , alas one was leaking so had to change it, done them as a pair

I was amazed at the differences , noticed it a lot on driving over speed bumps, useto have like a slight bounce to them

Personally I felt the new struts transformed the disco as it’s corners, ride quality feels even better

Maybe it was just in my head but my dad even commented how nice to now drives

If I may add, the new struts don’t normally come with the 3 x top nuts , I also replaced the voss connectors with brass push ins which made fitting a lot easier

Oh yes they were Dunlop’s

Hope that helps

I have noticed that a lot of replacement struts say remanufactured and do not come with nuts or voss connector. Wonder what they replace.

I took my old shocks off at 206k miles.

Bags were fine, and did not leak, but EVERY single imperfection in the road was greatly amplified

I'd report on how well it drives now, but... Laughing

I wondered if the genuine ones were made by delphi or Dunlop

Also couldn’t believe the price of a single voss connector , approx £14 , another reason i went for the brass pushfits

I replaced all four on my Sport when it hit 10 years and 100k miles. It transformed the ride and is a lot less bouncy.

I also used Dunlop's and I'm 100% satisfied with the quality. £689 for all four.

I drive over a very badly repaired road on the way to work and it rattles the car around. Fine on smooth roads.
If the shocks are knackered it won't help with towing but I guess the only way to find out is to bite the bullet and change them. I'd better start saving

My car has become so wiggly and rattles over rough surfaces and is a lot less smooth than when I got it 19,000 miles ago. back then I was taken by how smooth the ride felt. I'm hoping I can get back to that plush quality ride.
