Aircon not blowing cold air....

Ive put this in "Pointless posts" because its a question about MrsDiscoDunc's Grand Cherokee !!.

The aircon has suddenyl stopped blowing cold air. It still blows air but its just not cold anymore. this seemed to happen instantly. one second the air was cold, the next it was not Confused

it was re gassed, pressurised etc in August 2007 and until last week was blowing icy cold air.

Ive checked the a/c clutch fuse but its OK.

any ideas appreciated (other than get rid of the jeep..... which we will be going next year Thumbs Up)

Thanks in advance (for all your sarcastic comments Thumbs Up )

Sounds like you got a serious gas leak followed by a trip to a AC specialist.

Seals can rupture on A/c with no warning. Doesn't have to be as dramatic as a pipe bursting.

You've checked the clutch, so you've etablished that the compressor is turning over. It's all pointing towards loss of refrigerant. Sad
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

How good is the air con, mine has never blown icy cold air. It is in the garage now for the air con as the bearings went in the pump, do I expect it to be icy cold when I get it back (long story).

My Aircon in the Saab went a week after picking the car up from new - Saab said it wasn't under warranty as the car had had a Hirsch Performance Engine/Exhaust and Braking upgrade (Dealer fitted!!) had to take tha car back to the supplying dealer as my local more expensive dealer wouldn't do the work!!

Went the same way - icy cold on the way to work, got back to the car 3 hrs later and with the aircon on it was warmer than with it off!

Mine was a pipe rubbed through, because a muppet had fitted the exhaust bracket wrongly, so it had sawed its way through one onf the aircon pipes!!

Good job it wasnt a fuel line!!
 Must stop buying shiny toys....

1. Open the window - it's not that warm anyway
2. Sell it and buy a proper 4x4
3. Buy one of those £4.99 fans at a service station and stick it on the dash using No More Nails

On a more serious note, 2 years between a/c recharges is not unreasonable if you use it a lot. We seemed to get the a/c on our TDi 300 done that often when we lived in London.

Interesting, I always found that my Aircon always played up when I stopped using it during the winter months; now that I keep it on all year I haven't yet had a failure, including one car that was on it's original charge for 13 years and still blew very cold. Right, well that statement has set me up for a fall Laughing

I think its more to do with the size of the refridgerant particles.

The smaller paritcles seem to escape more often hence the aircon goes cold. Using the air con all the time beafs them up (a bit like a session down the gym) which means they are too big to escape.

Its obvious really. Mrs DiscoDuncs car was repressurised not that long ago but is not used a lot so the particles become small and agile, whereas my D3 is used every day and is still fine 3 years on. Thumbs Up

I have also got an air con problem, basically it has been in and got a new pump unit and still won't blow cold. It has gone back tand the pressure etc is all OK so no gas leakage. My friend has a Jag and has a similar problem and his blows cold when he sets it on low but I haven't tried mine yet as it is still at the specialist, sounds like a climate controller problem?
