Alarmed by the Alarm
Has anyone had their windows broken when the car is alarmed?
If so can anyone explain how it's possible to break the window (in my case two!) and remove items from the car without hearing the alarms going off - I thought that was the idea of the internal sensors on the roof.
I have also read about modifying the alarm sounder to use the horn I suggest you try yours and see how load the standard sounder is, if your lucky enough for it to be acitvated - don't worry you won't need ear plugs or frighten the neighbours, try it and see.
A cat passes my house occaisionally that has a bell attached and I can hear it from 30 feet away but my Disco was parked 3-4 feet away from the house below my bedroom window which was open and if the cat had passed I would have heard it above the alarm.
An explanation would be great - please

Are you sure you didn't press the lock button twice by mistake ?
This disables the internal sensors for when you leave animals etc in the vehicle. Also this disables the deadlocking in case you lock a child in and they need to get out in an emergency.
I also have a feeling you can switch around the one press for all zones activated and deadlocking (superlocking) and two presses for just the doors being locked and the internal alrams disabled... maybe wrong though. It is slightly different in some other countries. They have to press twice to superlock... so could it be set this way on yours ?
And yes... the battery backed up sounder is useless and pulling the plug is the sensible thing to do in order for the horn to be used instead.

The glass would have made more noise than the alarm... when mine was broken in to a few years back, the alarm was sounding in the underground car park... but I didn't even really notice it until after I saw the hazards flashing
Un plug the and sod the neighbours.

I'd even question if the 'alarm' is fit for purpose. I left the dogs in the car at the weekend and switched the alarm on by mistake. I was standing only 20 ft away and could only just hear it.
Can't see how LR could not of noticed how quiet it is.

Just been playing about with my alarm.
If I set the alarm with a single press of the remote the alarm sets and the deadlocks activate. The doors cannot be opened by using the inside door handles and you cannot unlock them by means of the console switches or moving the lock button on the door. Then after about 20 seconds of being set it sucessfully activates (al be it not that load) when it sences movement inside the car.
If I set the alarm with a double press of the remote I can now open then doors from the inside, however as soon as the door opens the alarm sounds. So even if you make a mistake and set the alarm without the inside sensors or deadlocks the alarm should sound if the doors are open.
Simon, what plug do I need to pull to make it use the main horn?

If the glass is broken though, no alarm will sound as none of the doors have been opened (perimeter alarm).
There is a thread describing the whole procedure somewhere. But essentially...
Open bonnet.
On left there is a large plastic cover (this is where a 2nd battery can be installed BTW).
Under the cover is a paperback book sized unit with a cable going into it. This is the battery backed up sounder.
It will more than likely have a Volvo sticker on it and have a circular ring of holes to emit the mouse speaks.
Remove the plug form this.
Replace the cover.
Try your alarm test again by opening the doors.
Cover you ears this time though

On my FL2 it the other way round
They didn't tell me how to lock & alarm the D3 I asked to borrow for three days whilst they did some work on my FL2.
So basically i was just locking the car not alarming it each and every day

As simon says, 2 presses does activate the alarm, but disables the deadlocks and interior sensors.

G'day Flinty99,
I thought I'd add that the Australian models have the inner motion sensors disabled! I've read a few posts on here confirming that it's not just my car that cannot trip the motion sensors by moving around inside the vehicle , 1 press or 2...
Perhaps yours has also been disabled as well? Question beg's though, why would LR consider disabling it at all?? I can't imagine that it saves $$
What's the point.... it all comes out in the wash anyway!

Strange, all the FL2's I've driven have had the same as the D3... once for superlock, twice to non deadlock and disarm the interior alarm.

Just checked on the owners info site
One press locks the car and arms the alarm (perimeter), 2nd press deadlocks the car and arms the internal sensors
