alternator woes

In France, parked at supermarche and when returned the remote won't unlock the doors. Opened pass side with key but no go with remote unlock, can't start engine - not even usual lights on dash. Hear a strong clocking under the hood. Hard reset battery, but only airbag light and message the parking brake is not on. Can smell hot electrics under bonnet.

Connect and deconnect the batt three times and manage to get the dash lights on but no start - as if batt is dead. Plug in iid tool and clear many faults.

Remote locking is now working and all seems fine but the car won't fire as if battery dead. Get a local garage to jump me and car runs fine - back to garage where they test charge and reading 12v at the batt when running and iid tool is saying 11.8-12.2v so garage saying new alternator.

will the battery be toast? Could anything else be frizzed?

and this on top of me putting the iphone in the washing machine this morning....

any tips for the 'peugeot' garage to be aware of ?

Cheers

disconnect battery
and change alternator.

turn your phone off
if you have the tools, split your phone in half, stick it in some rice.
leave for 24hrs
If you get it working the display maybe bad, but could dry out after 2 weeks

Replace with genuine Denso alternator and get battery charged seperately. Possible that battery gets damaged when alternator goes into meltdown. Happened to me, the alternator becomes a heat sink for the battery when it fails. Good luck.
