AMK Compressor fitting - Quoted
Hi,
So my compressor may be on the way out (it might also be an air tank leak but I need to get outside with the soapy water).
I got a quote from my local indie for a compressor replacement in anticipation and they quoted around £800 for an AMK supplied and fitted with most of the time being the software update.
Initially, this felt a little steep.
Thoughts?

I was about to say "Waaay steep... " but then checked the AMK price and it seems to have gone through the roof? In the region of £700-800.
Rather than go AMK, perhaps go with the Dunlop / Hitachi direct replacement which is a heck of a lot cheaper...2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

way to expensive pal , pretty sure you could find a better quote or replace with a Dunlop like you have been offered

It might be worth considering a refurb! Its generally a very strong unit so if the motor and piston / cyl assy are OK, £50 and an hour's worth of your time could revive it
As with the Hitachi in many cases its the drier and filters which degrade over time, preventing air flow and overworking the compressor.
As DM says, avoid and the cheap China crap or you will be paying again sooner than you might think. Dunlop is not much better.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Check parts prices at Rimmer Bros, or other specialists.
When I did mine a few years back the compressor cost £350/400 from memory, installation cost 1.5 hours at local garage and I did the reprogramming on the IIDTool.
Local LR Dealer wanted £1500!!!!!!

Mine is now on its 2nd AMK compressor (first one must have been fitted by a previous owner). Broadlane Landrovers (Westbury) supplied and fitted my new one last November with the total coming to £601.25 incl. vat - the new compressor supplied was £383.55 + vat with 1.5 hours to fit, from the breakdown on the invoice.
Because it replaced a previous AMK, I didn’t need the adaption kit or the software update, so guess that would add a bit more on. Would definitely recommend Broadlane too - hope the above helps 2007 D3 SE - currently having all sorts bolted to it...
Series I 1953 - original, unmolested and well loved
FL1 Diesel - gone - not missed...
