Discovery 3 Instrument Cluster Failure. Please Help!!!!!!

So i have owned my Disco 3 for around 18 months now. I can safely say it is by far the best and worst car I've ever owned. Literally everything that could go wrong or need replacing has done. Anyway onto the issue in hand.

About a month a go completely out of the blue my car became possessed by what i thought was some electrical gremlin! The faults were sporadic and completely at random. Symptoms included:

1. Alarm going off for no reason.
2. Hazards flashing for no reason.
3. Central locking operating or trying to for no reason.
4. Park Brake warning.
5. Transmission warning.
6. Ignition turning itself on.
7. Stereo, sat nav and climate control all turning on for no reason.
8. Plenty more of randomness that eludes me at present.

All of the above would happen after the car was switched off and key removed from the ignition. Whilst driving there is not one fault or issue. Only when stopping and turning the car off. It has got to the point where if I use it i have to disconnect the battery and lock manually after every trip.

I have had it into 2 separate garages who have both said the instrument cluster is faulty and needs replacing. I have heard various stories of updating software but the main dealer deny all knowledge and try to sell and fit a new one (£1000!). I have heard of people buying 2nd hand units and simply swapping them out, but I am told this is not possible due to the cluster needing to be programmed to the VIN. I have come across various 'instrument cluster repairs' which only seem to fix dead clusters and dead lighting etc.

I am at my whits end! I am just looking for some genuine information and instruction from more technically gifted and experienced members. I thank anyone in advance for any help or advice they can provide. Gareth

My car was suffering from all of these symptoms, as well as showing the 'vehicle is shutting down' message on the radio display.

It was fixed with a new instrument cluster, with reprogramming for £1000.

I just love my car and had to get it done.

Repairs of the D3 clusters are possible - a few on here have had it done (not for lighting or pixels).

Posted on Monday morning sent next day delivery £11 text to see if it had arrived got a text back at 18:00 confirming arrived then at 21:50 got a picture showing it all working on test rig and will be with me Thursday by 1pm registered post. Looks like I sent it to the right person. Thumbs Up But thought that level of service and commitment deserved a mention. I told Partryk that was going to post on here. So waiting to get it back and fitted then tackle lower suspension. Nearly ready for MOT. Thumbs Up

https://totaltronics.com/ link to who I used for those interested. Total cost £230 that includes the postage for me to send.

Instrument cluster

Took mine to totaltronics and he resoldered chip pins within couple of hours. Hopefully got rid of the can bus issues
30/9 - couple of days and one complete round trip of 140 miles and so far no signs of gremlins.
22/10 - over 500 miles and all well - thank you totaltronics
