annual d4 heating moan

the heating control in the MY14-16 is total pants!!

ive read all the threads had all the TSB work done wrapped the precious cabin sensor in new foam and all that and it still cuts off heat from the high level vents and pumps freezing cols air at you once up to temp !!

has anyone actually got this sorted . both my previous MY05 & MY 10 were perfect and a colleague has just got an MY17 Full fat RR and thats perfect by mine well you need a jacket on to go any distance in the winter as your forever turning the temp up in an attempt to get a decent cabin temp its ridiculous

Interesting. Didn't know this was a known issue.

My new to me D4 can be intermittently either hot or cold or working fine, although I have to ignore the temp on the dials and wind them up to get heat. It's also not biased to either side. Anyway, its going in on Friday to be sorted by the dealer.

Laughing my 2013 does the same haven't really thought of it as a problem more an annoyance

i tend to have my dial set at 19 degrees even in winter and as a result its not long until it starts blowing cool air then all i do is turn the dial up by 1 degree at a time
 please excuse any grammer/punctuation mistakes,i'm thick,thankyou

I've found in other cars that the internal temperature sensor gets caked with dust which makes it inaccurate.
Either cleaning it or blowing at it with high pressure air can sometimes help - I've used those duster cans with a straw in the past.

The D4s have done it from new. It’s a technical/design fault.

I went from a 2013 car with perfect heating, to a 2015 adblue, with the well known at the time "3 degree error" and heating that would get progressively colder (several detailed posts from me on this at the time, theres a few threads about it, and an 'invite only' forum area).

The fact that the display was about 3 degrees 'out' never bothered me at all. The fact that the car was freezing was an unacceptable problem. My fingers would literally go blue!

Never really solved it. Definitely not worn out components or dust etc - it was a brand new car. They changed the software in some way at about the time adblue was added & lower emissions figure hit.

The only relevant or useful thing I did notice is that the problem was way worse in low sun - morning or evening. If the road turned into the sun, the AC would blow colder air. I believe the sensor on top of dash (centre) was overriding the rest of the logic of the AC and saying: sun is shining into cabin, therefore 'counter' this by adding cold air...

I ended up rejecting the car. The replacement 2016 car is way better, but not actually as effective as 2005 /2006 / 2007 / 2013.

Interesting, I didn't know any of that as I'm still new to D4 ownership, but the other day it seemed like my heater suddenly wasn't very warm. I had to put both sides up to max (28°) to be comfortable. Previously I'd tended to have them around 22-24. Outside temp was about 12 at the time, it wasn't even cold out there !

First thought was thermostat but diagnostics showed coolant temp to be correct at 88±1 degrees.

So I guess it's just another bit of bad design from LR.

If you want to get really depressed, watch the latest episode of LRTime on you tube, cleaning/replacing the heater matrix. Scary.
