annual test MOT we dont test land rover diesels
so annual inspection overdue(due to virus) went to normal place..sorry cant test diesel our machine is broken..a bit odd as they have at least 4..so off to another...same...very odd..went to another and guy says wont test LR diesel as have had engine issues after emission testing....so...thursday off to try another.
they used to be all police controlled they have just become independant...what a pain as they are all outside city.
notgood for LR..I am sure this will filter down as.dont buy LR you cant get them tested...will update after thursdayIt is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

Presumably an engine went pop during or just after testing?

In Chengdu? Ahhh I miss the craziness of China, and how something can just become so much more difficult/impossible over night without a real reason. The next guy you speak to will give you a different reason for sure....
Aren't their any test centres connected with the licensing agency?

therewas a conflict of interest..read as backhanders..so all transfered to independants just a few months ago.
have called one in another area.they say can do..will wait and see
who knowsby then a whole new system could be in placeIt is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

The new conflict of interest will be that the 'independent' test centres will definitely be connected in one way or another to those with the right guanxi.
I lived in China for a few years, 2 of which were in Chengdu. When I wanted my license nobody could understand why I would actually sit the theory test instead of just paying someone off or paying for someone to do it for me.
Same when I got points for speeding, queues of people waiting to have your points (for money of course) rather than put them on your own license......

finally....went to a satellite city.(Wenjiang) to get it done...had to do twice as they forgot to photograph the E handbrake
side note
getting other ppl to take your points is harder as now you have to register all car users prior to check . If they are not on list they cant take points.
the Maserati was easy...drive to dealer and some minion takes it to test while you wait.It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.
