It’s going to be expensive through a dealership, even with a contribution I expect.

Maybe not that rare. Just over a year ago mine (2013 HSE) had the dreaded crank failure at approximately 57500 miles. I ended up having a genuine LR remanufactured engine, plus both turbo chargers just in case, fitted by a LR approved Service Agent. The final bill was around £15K inclusive of VAT. LR picked up 90% of the cost and the warranty company (RAC) the balance. Although the car has a full service history, with one service being very late, none of it was done by a LR dealer. They just came up with that offer straight away and I wasn't going to argue over it!

A bit more reassuring than I had come to think.

Given they have set legal case precedent in other countries admitting the same engine has known component issues on a very simple and logical basis would have thought that a litigator would be able to gain at least some level of contribution towards replacement etc.

Hopefully will never have to put that logic to the test. But it remains my one main fear of ownership.

Peeps have talked re taking legal action against LR on here for years, not aware of anyone that has had the nerve to start the process. Good luck to the brave soul that tries but I’d not hold my breath for a positive outcome. Whistle

Interestingly with the cost of engine replacements now being well above the “market value” of many cars, owners are in the territory of the car potentially not being covered by their warranty as most have that as an exclusion re market value.

I have a friend who owns a legal firm, his RRS has just had a 3.0 engine failure. He is now looking at pursuing LR.
If he does actually go there, I may be asking if anyone on here wants to join in with a class action.
But, do not hold your breath. I suspect there must be a reason this hasn't already been done.

No, the RAC covered the balance of the total cost, LR having absorbed the majority. What it did do was make the RAC warranty pretty much cost neutral. Very happy with that. Plus the replacement engine has a 2 year parts and labour warranty from LR!

Sorry for late reply guys... (VERY late), forgotten I'd posted in this thread.

I'm not sure how the final bill was picked up but as the failure happened while the dealers were test driving it after a service just after I'd purchased it they just sorted it out & loaned me a brand new D4 for the duration of the work. The invoice for the work is included in the cars service history, it runs to many pages of parts...
