Another In-car DVD solution
Having just got a 05 HSE and with three small children I have been researching the video solutions for the back seats. Not wanting to hack the roof about or the seat backs, I have found this supplier (and some units the same on ebay).
As usual the boys from Honkers and the Shenzen Mecca over the border in China have got it covered. Saw several other options too last year when in China. Generally their stuff is excellent value for money especially if someone is going out there and can bring it back saving £30 postage.
Might consider this for mine - got some contacts out there that could perhaps buy @ local level, will mail them details and see what comes.

and this would also show films from an ipod. Thinking of using an 80GB ipod as a store of films and music and linking to a couple of ebay screens. Anyone done this?

DVD Options update
Have ordered one off e-bay today, added ten quid extra for the integrated analog tv tuner Ended up costing £99 for the screen, £10 for the tv tuner and £40 delivery from china. They have another version with a smaller screen (7" rather then the 8.5") with integrated ipod controls and bluetooth for phone integration. Just search ebay for "armrest dvd". I will take pictures during the install if anyone is interested?
Not expecting it to be too taxing. I have a mail from the manufacturer confirming that divx can be run from memory stick or usb hard drives.
Spec sheets and colours on e-bay.....
regards

I'll be interested in how easy it is for you to install.
It look a neat unit, is there only the light grey colour option?

DVD Supplier
Hi
I went with trust-electronics2007
Just had notification of the DHL reference number to track the package. I will post again when delivered and installed. I found the communications with them to be very professional.
I plan to use a USB hard disk as the kids already have a media player based on a laptop (2.5") hard disk that contains their collection of movies which has video out as well as USB for loading the files. This should avoid the whine of the DVD rotating as well and I should be able to plug into the power connector and use either AUX or the FM transmitter for the audio and then the rear headphone sockets will carry audio to the kids.

Looks very neat, great fit
Where does the DVD go in and does it fold flat or aways stay as it is?
I went for the roof fitting myself but that sure does look good. Stadt Panzer Power

That looks horribly exposed to knocks/damage/impeding front driver/pax arms etc. Does it fold away at all - looks like it can either just go flat on top of the cubby or vertically behind the console (ie in front of the 2nd row air vents???
Also with a roof mount the 3rd row seats can see too. No cutting of the roof at all with the Alpine I fitted.Cheers

DVD Screen Fitting
The DVD goes in the back but I am using a laptop HDD plugged into the USB port for 60gb of movies.
I agree that the roof units look better when out of the way but wanted low cost and low effort and did not want to obstruct the rearview mirror. I was tempted to fit two roof units between the rear climate controls and top vents but was unsure of the fixing method.
The unit either folds flat onto the armrest or down below the vents, and we tested the rear seat view, it is a small picture but can bee seen from the back.
