Another Park Brake Error

After 8 months and 7000 miles of plain sailing I got the little yellow light and a Park Brake Error today Crying or Very sad , I immediately stopped and turned everything off, restarted and all seemed back to normal, but I'm not taking any chances and am going to book it into the dealers...it'll be interesting to see if they acknowledge that there are errors with the Parking Brake....it may of course be a corroded cable to the Park Brake Module or something else more sinister, we shall see.

The error will be logged in the car in theory so they should see it.

You had any Low Coolant Warnings yet ?

Park brake errors may be software, may be rear disc/drum castings that are corroded and filling with rust particles.

If your park brake squeeks as you pull away after just releasing(roll down your window to tell), its corrosion & dealer should replace under waranty, mine were as were a few more @my dealer. Otherwise blame Bill Gates

My park brake does squeal sometimes as I pull away. Even if I apply the brakes slightly the squeal continues.

Does the park brake not use any of the wheel brakes ? Applying the the foot break usually stops (temporarily) these kinds of squeals if there is grit causing a squeal between disc and pad until you release your foot from the pedal.

Park brake is applied using a drum cast on the inner side of the rear disc.

If as u descirbe Simon u get a squeel just after releasing and then seems to dissapear as you have pulled away or applied the foot brake, get your dealer to check out the drums.

These symptoms are exactly as mine were, and they ended up putting on new disc/drum units on both sides @ the back as corroded.

Mike.
P.S dont worry the brakes work fine, and squeel goes once driving as the rust gets ground up.

Mine is now back and apparently working OK, when I asked what the problem was the 'service gentleman' muffled something about a wiring loom and 4th gear not working (news to me)...trying to baffle me with nonsense I think. Twisted Evil

I got that parking brake error light on the way home from the dealers after taking delivery. Was just getting used to the gearbox, had a little trouble finding 1st and the light came on. It seemed to reset itself when i got home and no sign since, that was almost a week ago.

I think a lot of people get that. It could be something to do with the dealer and not setting properly initially.

Park Brake Issues

11,000 miles & park brake problems for me too. Loud squeal when applied. Dealer fitted new disc/drums & new shoes, mechanic comments "shoes worn strangely & rear discs seen to also be worn & have high spots". This site certainly shows up some common problems with this vehicle, must be costing L.R. a fortune. Got the wheel alignment done & adjusted same time, camber & toe NSR.
