Another Spain/France trip

So here's the plan for the weekend. Arrive down there, then a month later leave from up there.
End of detailed holiday plan

Will skirt along the Spanish side of the Pyrenees for a bit then head through the Somport tunnel as we'll have the 'van in tow, but the rest is a mystery 8) [/img]

For a bit more interesting route, avoiding Paris and the mega busy autoroutes try:

Caiais to Rouen
Rouen to Chartres
Chartres to Tours on the N10
Tours to Poitiers (peage)
Poitiers to Angouleme
Angouleme to Bordeaux
Then obvious route sw.

Some, not much, normal road, fair bit of d/cway, some free autoroute & some peage. Re Peage, tip tip = get a tag. You skip the queues and the passanger doesn't have to wake up. And if you're solo, avoids a potentially painful meeting with the gearstick. Thumbs Up

Thinking we might do the south then work up the east side through the ardeche etc, as haven't done this before.
There are some very jealous people at work "how have you got a month off??, etc" - Once retirement hits ( 24yrs away Big Cry ) we'll no doubt do this for months on end Mr. Green
Left it too late to get a tag as we go in 2 days but isn't there admin fees, etc to consider so that its not cheaper but more convenient? Given that we'll be well over the 3500KG limit we can't go any faster on the Peages than on normal roads anyway.

I might be wrong but you might be able to purchase a tag at the Eurotunnel terminal in Folkestone. I repeat, I might be wrong....

Cheers for that, I'll see what options there are at Portsmouth as we have a bit of time before hopping on the ferry there.

Keep me posted as we will pass close to each other at some stage. We set off tomorrow and start at Roscoff. Good luck πŸ‘

Sadly I don't think you can buy the Sanef Liber-t transponder anywhere over the counter.

Here's their website application form:-

https://www.saneftolling.co.uk/subscription

They say:-

Quote:
Orders received before 14:00 (Monday to Friday) will normally be shipped by Royal Mail 1st Class post on the same day so you should expect to receive your tag in 1 to 2 business days. For orders placed after this time, we will endeavour to dispatch the same day but depending on how busy we are this may run to the following working day. The parcel is small enough to fit through your letter box and does not require a signature.

I also believe that you can no longer buy a tag in France, unless you have a French address & a French bank account - hopefully someone else can confirm.

Bip&Go is available for non-French residents (well it is where I live...) over the counter at certain outlets so Eurotunnel might be an option.

You get the tag, registration is made at point-of-sale, pay via debit card transaction at point-of-sale and quick activation by entering registration number into their website. Ten minutes. And it now covers France and Spain.

The toll itself is not cheaper when compared to taking a ticket but is a hell of a lot easier. Especially when taking the 30km lanes - no need to even stop.

Admin cost is 1.70 euro for France and 2.50 euro for Spain per month in the month you use it (trip over two months = two payments; don't use it = no payment; don't use it for 12 consecutive months = 10euro flat fee). Cost is negligible. Thumbs Up

And a recommendation for a visit if you stay west - Oradour-sur Glane near Limoges Thumbs Up

Looks like there is no over the counter option for my ferry route (Portsmouth - Bilbao) so I'll just have to get the wife to pay at the tool booth, so no hardship for me haha!

Arialmark - the ship stops off at Roscoff to pick up crew I believe, then it's off to Bilbao yay!

Setting off at dawn tomorrow - let the hols begin Smile
