Anybody here converted a V8 to LPG? |

If so what options on tank size and where can they go?

To the later link - LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Had my D3 converted just prior to Christmas.
Conversion was carried out using a Prinz VSI-LPG system (Dutch)
Tank was fitted where the spare wheel originally went (83 litre) so actual capacityis 66 litres, seems to give
me approx 200 miles between refills, mixed driving, near to speed limits.
LPG 43p/l approx £28.00 to fill up, one motorway journey gave closer to 250 miles per tank.
Hope this helps.

How safe is it there? I'd have thought the spare wheel carrier is a fairly exposed position. I take it it has all been impact tested etc.? 2007 Porsche Boxster (987) 2.7

All safety requirements have been met & warranty certificate issued.
I have re-installed the spare wheel on a carrier mounted on the rear RHS.
Yes I accept that the LPG tank is probably lower than the original spare wheel
so perhaps not so good for off-roading but that is not my scene but the joy of a V8 is
& that I am enjoying!
Will be interesting when I tow the caravan in the summer to note mpg.

I've been looking at LPG for a while. One Land Rover/Range Rover specialist who does conversions has told me that the right conversion works but they have only done a couple of D3 V8 s so far and the engine MIL light keeps coming on and needs a reset but seems to work well otherwise.
My LR dealer service dept ( a good one!) told me that they have a customer with an LPG conversion but same issue, MIL light keeps coming on.
Maybe it depends if you don't mind paying for the D3 to be hooked up to the computer to have the light put out from time to time. and don't mind risking warranty argument if the engine blows. Strictly speaking it invalidates warranty but it depends on attitude of dealer/LR I suppose.
I've decided to stick with petrol for now. Not doing so many miles and cannot do with hassle and even smaller tank to fill up even more often. I think any D3 probably is not the best vehicle for economical motoring in any form. Have tried everything else comparable and don't like them as much as D3 so am hoping to hang on to V8 until LR actually come out with a D3 with a good big diesel.
In meantime I am planning on swapping wife's car for a Kuga so I can save a bit of fuel now and again.

That is where the D1 and D2 had their fuel tanks so location is ok, D3 has added benefit of built-in towbar mount on every vehicle at the chassis rear. In addition LPG tanks are thick-walled pressure vessels, not thin-skin (or plastic) as with any std fuel tank. Cheers
