anybody using Tomtom as MP3 player?

I am thinking about replacing my tomtom one by a Tomtom 920.
The main reason would be using it as a mp3 player:
- no need to have another gadget in the car that attracts thieves
- within hands reach on the dash (brodit holder) + tomtom remote control
- connection to the aux input
- no 12V socket used (active brodit holder)

Does anybody have experience with the tomtom 920 as mp3 player?
- is the quality good?
- is it user friendly?
- any problems/annoyances?
- does navigation works when playing music?

Many thanks in advance for your comments!

I've used the iPod connection cable with my 710 and it works very well. Even have all the playlists as per the iPod.

Quality via TomTom was fine - just a pain to get the audio cable from the windscreen all the was back to the aux in.

I use the FM transmitter with my tt910…. Its fantastic. Easy to use and set up. The only thing on the 910 is I cant switch off the directions voice and just listen to the music… it stops the track and reads out the direction… mute, mutes the whole thing.

But apart from this and the odd bit of radio interference, its great!

Thanks Simon and ace_brodie for the information.
Simon, does the above problem occur as well with the aux-input?

I use the N95 with a 2Gb card through the aux socket. If the phone rings it automatically goes to the phone and is hands free. The mic in the phone works perfectly if it is in the centre console and the quality is better than using the proper LR bluetooth kit according to people I call

yeah it does work rather well.

PTI seems to work very well too with the N95. Has dropped the BT connection though once and only way to get the phone to find the LAND ROVER was to turn off the D3 and reboot Rolling with laughter

I have the 920 and have used it as an MP3 player, works fine if plugged in, but I have found the FM transmitter to be quite poor, have tried numerous frequencies, but never got a nice clear signal. I put this down to the fact that the FM aerial is in the rear quarter glass and therefore too far away from the transmitter.

Latest maps are very good, especially for the Cz Thumbs Up

After all, i think i will use my palm smart phone as mp3 player...

I just ordered a sd card for it.
this should save me the money on the tomtom 920 (i have the tomtom one new, which is great for czech) and the time to change the brodit holder.

I do hope the long awaited dvd from LR will appear soon and the tomtom one new is all I need next to the Lr navigation to warn me for Czech fixed radars.

Why does technology changes so fast the last 5 years? I ordered a car with a 5-cd player and now I consider the cd-player/changer as worthless...
