Anyone doing D3 LHD to RHD conversions? |
|
A global appeal really. I'm currently happily enjoying my modded D3 (LR3) in Oman, and having to plan to settle somewhere else in the next 6 - 15 months- perhaps South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, mainland Europe - maybe even the UK!
Having spent a small fortune on modifying my car to suit the driving off-road here, I'm really reluctant to leave it behind when we leave. Given the advantageous purchase price, it may be economic to consider converting it from LHD to RHD and LPG to suit the destination country, and there again................
It seems an increasing number of countries are excluding the import of vehicles with the steering on the 'wrong' side for that nation.
So, is there anyone with knowledge of someone who has carried out a steering side and LPG conversion on the D3 (LR3), particularly in South Africa, Australia or New Zealand? If so, could they make contact please?

Slimer,
Thanks for the link - I couldn't find one earlier when I searched.
All grim news for my thoughts I'm afraid. My local dealer has a fantatsic South African workshop manager who's probably capable of giving it a crack, but the guys that do the work are more fitters than mechanical specialists I'm afarid.
It's going to tear me apart to have to sell the car here and very probably to someone who will not appreciate the mods and why they've been done, and will not use the car for what it has ably demonstrated it so capable of. I can honestly say, this car, despite its EPB niggles from time-to-time, has been the very best car, the most capable car, that I have ever owned in a driving career spanning nigh on 40 years.
Alternative is of course, just to settle in a country where they allow LHD cars in, or they all drive on the right in LHD cars - sadly, most of the places we feel like settling down in are not on that list!
However, there may just be someone out in the big wide LR world that has tackled this....havng just read of a D3 rebuild in LR monthly (March issue) I live in hope!!
