Anyone in or familiar with Perth/WA?

Hi peeps,
I have the opportunity to apply for a position as a transit patrol officer with the PTA in Perth.
Nothing set in stone, I have to pass their tests and obtain residency (which is probably a non starter at my age)
Does anyone know anything about the job as a Transit Patrol Officer please?
Is it a Police job or is it a security guard job things like that?
regards
Tony

WA= BIG. One shire (East Pilbara) is bigger than the state of Victoria or Italy.

I don't know 100% about WA's PTA but I can give you some direction from a Victorian perspective , which I doubt is much different to Perth.

In Vic the Tranist Officers can arrest & detain an offender. They have these rights in law.
Duties include: asset protection, ticket checking, customer service duties(in the case of an accident/incident), a security presence on trains at night and standing near the girl with the biggest boobies on the train. (This last point seems to be the only thing they do regularly and constantly.

Payrates, in Vic, are about $65kp.a.

Perth's system is on the expand and improvements to the system seem to be coming monthly.
I don't know if it is still in Government hands (but I think it is). If it does privatise watch out for Frenchmen bearing gifts. (A French sewerage company runs a lot of Perth's buses).

Don't say that in Perth. They will lynch you. They take their Australian Rules (the quaint, little, domestic football) very serious. Eagles or Dockers there.
I would be going for Perth Glory (soccer) or Perth Reds (rugby) if I personally had to.

I have been on the forum for a while I live in Perth and you have probably got the answer now, but Transit Patrol Officer is a job patrolling the trains in the metro area. Checking tiickets dealing with any incidents etc. So I suppose a sort of mobile security guard

Hope this helps

Just a small correction to Red Disco's post - if you like rugby union you'll be supporting the Force not the Perth Reds - the Reds are from Queensland although after their performances last season I'd be happy to trade them for the Force, or any other barely competant team...

The Reds used to be the Perth Rugby League Team, but I think they augered in.

You'll probably want to watch some AFL (Aussie Rules). There are two teams in Perth: The mighty Fremantle Dockers and the West Coast Weegirls.

Fancy Me getting the gentleman's game mixed up with the thugs game.

Yes the Reds were the Perth Rugby League team that was abandoned by uncle Rupert and therefore the money collapsed.

No probs RedDisco, as mentioned I'd be happy for the current QLD Reds to relocated to Perth - then we could rebuild QLD rugby with a local team here on the Gold Coast Very Happy

BTW I'm rather fond of the saying that 'Rugby Union is a game designed for thugs and played by gentlemen and rugby league is a game for gentlemen but played by thugs' . I've played both and have to concur.
