Apple Carplay and using Google Maps

Was wondering if anyone can tell me how to go about using Google maps whilst utilizing Apple Car Play? I know its not an option on the screen, so am thinking that I need to jailbreak the phone? Is this an easy thing to do and having done it will it allow me to use Google maps.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

I don't know about CarPlay, but you don't need to jailbreak the phone to use Google Maps on the phone itself, there is an app in the app store. As far as jail breaking is concerned it isn't that difficult, my son had his 6S Jailbroken from launch as he wanted to do some things that Apple won't let you. ISTR his version was run in an app, it was a bit buggy needing a reset most days. The phone was replaced under warranty and he never reinstalled it on the new phone. Interestingly when apple looked at the phone they never picked up it was Jail broken, or weren't bothered.

You can't.

You can only use Apple Maps and even that has to be through Siri. No Spotify or any other app except the ones apple supplies.

Carplay is absolutely pathetic imo.

If jailbreaking is an option though, try this video for an explanation:

Open GM on the iPhone set it to give directions, then open up maps in CarPlay. You get the directions from google maps, but see the Apple app

Go to the Apple feedback site and complain, telling them what you want. If enough do it it might happen

Or something to shout at/talk to. It had been 7 day solid driving at 500 miles/day, with 8 hours car stripping in the middle, so needed something to argue with or shout at. Only 700 miles to go til home.

Truth be told, I was going to try the LR nav for the whole of that trip but abandoned that idea after the second day. I had set the TMC settings to Italy as I was sick of "THERE IS SLOW TRAFGIC AHEAD" announcements every few minutes. Banging Head Banging Head

Brodit mount + Hey siri = better than most integrated car systems!

Personally I use Waze for navigation, purely for the user inputted warnings of where the Rozzers are hiding with their cameras!
