I've had used cars from a number of dealers over the years, and I've always paid the tax when necessary. Sometimes it has been included in the total cost, but always itemised separately at the normal rate.
Since road tax become non-transferable, I've done it online, in the dealership, before driving away.
That said, I didn't directly pay the tax on either of my two brand new cars from Guy Salmon Northampton. Gordon
