Plenty about that on here, it used to be about £11 for a new one but suddenly went up to silly money, around £100 rings a bell. I believe most remove the spring and use blue tack or something.Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Searching for hints and tips, have the same, ashtray won’t stay in after I had to ‘force’ it open as contents had jammed it closed.
How do you remove the whole carrier movement?

Looks to be a few ashtray units on ebay for £20+ish, the above being the first I came across.
What'll probably happen is that you'll buy one, see how it works, be able to fix the one you have, then you will have a spare ashtray, which will not come in useful for the rest of your natural life. It's how things turn out I find...

thanks, yes I've seen these and from the position of the screw/bolt fixings, removal looks like it requires some further dash trim removal first which I'm reluctant to do for fear of breaking more!
