Attempted theft car now dead.

Last night my friend’s facelift XS suffered a broken driver’s window when thieves tried to steal it.
Unfortunately the car won’t now start and shows the message ‘Smart Key not found Refer to Handbook’.
So they obviously did something when they tried to steal the car. An XS does not have the keyless system just a fob. Ideas anyone?

Glad they didn’t steal it! I don’t know for sure, but sounds like they may have tried to adjust the ccf? Has your friend got access to diagnostics such as an iid tool?

Poss tried to programme a key and the “old” one dropped off the programmed list of keys? Though if they were going to use the OBD port wouldn’t they have gone in through the passenger side window?

my first thoughts are ... get some security in place so they can't come back and finish the job.

If the KVM has had its security update, and they have tried to program a new key, it will have failed, but will also have wiped the existing key memory

New KVM + 2 new keys required, from the sounds of things Big Cry

What’s this update you speak Mike? Is it applicable to earlier keyless cars like my 2013 HSE Lux?

Hi All,
Car collected by Wimbledon Land Rover, first impressions are as above, they will also get the window fixed as insurers outfit Auto Windscreens said not before next week. Censored off call to the insurers and they agreed to pay first £150 before excess. Good result that.
Thank you all for your input.

If there is a claim made for damage following the attempted theft and an excess to pay, there isn't generally a further excess for the replacement of the glass. Thumbs Up

No claim for damage, just the glass.

Applicable to all D4/RRS/Evoque/DS/2013 FL2 etc

Turns the KVM from a programmable unit to a read only unit, preventing new keys from being programmed to the module

Good for security, bad for owners...

Arguably good for the owners in the sense that the vehicle stays and doesn’t vanish never to return... Everything is relative.. Thumbs Up

Hmm ok thanks for that. I think I’ll just keep looking after my keys in a faraday bag, and using the iid to make sure none get added.

so ... who's paying JLR for KVM and keys ? suspect that's an eye-watering amount.
