audio just won't turn on anymore. |

Had the gs about 8 weeks, and all of a sudden the radio and cd player just won't come on anymore. What's that all about? Is there a known way of resetting it?

If base head unit, they are a load of c ap. Often faulty, get dealer to replace. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Then the dealer will reset it - by removing +ve and -ve battery terminals, shorting the leads together, and reconnecting to batter... so that it will happen to you again later on! This has happened to me a couple of times - always after I have it pressure washed.

My base model stereo was replaced under warranty last week. Mine hung once and I told the dealer, he said "that will only get worse, we will replace the unit" Apparently they have had to replace quite a few!!! 1993 Defender 110 300tdi - many mods

Mine did that on Monday, the display was working and you could turn the voume up etc, but no sound. If you selected CD you could change discs, but the track time wouldn't change.
Pulled into layby and switched off engine, locked the doors so it went to sleep and then it all worked again. Am I looking at a problem which will come back.
Might get them to check when I get the steering done.

Hi Neil - no, the dealer will reset the crappy head unit (like I explained) - instead of replacing it.
The first time it happened, I wondered how they got my CD out of the old head unit when it wasn't working. Then I realised - they just reset the unit and didn't replace it.
Good luck!
Cheers,
Rob

Thanks for that Rob
Mine went "volume dead" when I changed from FM to CD a couple of months ago, then again yesterday.
Still clocking play time & track, but silent.
ALSO did it from CD to FM(yesterdays glitch) showed station frequency, but silent.
Switched it off and on again, then was ok........"ticking bomb" for future problem
What do you think I should do guys ?

Neil - mention it to your dealer. There was mention by Scouse on the AULRO site about the dealer downloading an update to the head unit. It may fix it... if not, the head unit will need replacing.
Cheers,
Rob

Hi Caver - any differences in features or sound quality between the earlier unit and the '08 model? Can the black facia be swapped over with the older one?
Cheers,
Rob

Hi Rob
No difference really that I can notice except no issues with drop out of FM reception I was having before.
You can't change the facia very easily as the facia has an elecronic circuit board on it as well. Doesn't llok too out of place in black though.
I think there have been changes made in the design or supplier. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
