Toyota Hilux in on track to sell 43,000 units in Australia this year or over 3,500 units a month and is the number 1 selling vehicle in Australia at the moment.
40% of new car sales are now SUV’s.
What I can tell, LR are selling around 250 D5’s a month.
I just noticed March sales show LRA are down about 23% compare to this time last year. (Jag -4%)
Why can it win these awards, yet the potential 4wd purchaser is not Buying it?

I expected nothing less than all negatives .....glad to see that those in the video have a more balanced and objective view though 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Out of the two of us, I don’t have any vested interest in trying to sell LR products.
The D5 could’nt find a root in a bunch of mangroves

I think LR's focus lays elsewhere. For instance, more people live in Shanghai than Australia - you can see why Australia gets left with Ute's.... Disco 5 HSE Lux

I wondered where the “objective” bit was going to come in, but it’s worth waiting until half way through the second video for that bit. They do at least then acknowledge that it’s now much more of a road car and at least they mentioned the poor off road visibility due to the high and very rounded bonnet. The new cameras are a big improvement on the old ones, but they’re no substitute for being able to see where the front corners of the car are.
Did I understand correctly that they found a big improvement with the locking rear diff? 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: 2 x FL2 as “second” cars 🙄
2021 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200
2022 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200 & sidecar!
(One of only two known to exist in the world!)

My comments weren't negatives, for many owners the loss of the points I highlighted will be seen as big positives. Which is of course why LR made the changes. Unfortunately, myself and a few others, still want a rectangular box on wheels, with a split tail gate. I fully accept that we are the minority and LR has moved away from that niche market and that the majority want a high up, 7 seater, that rides and drives like a car.
I'm not a fan of the looks of the D5, but for me the Discovery is more of a tool than a thing of beauty, so I'm really not bothered. It certainly wouldn't stop me buying one. Which in the future I may well do, as there's still no replacement (from any marque) for the D4 on the horizon.
As I said, if the D5 suits your needs then that's fanastic. I'm pleased for you. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Pretty much my own view. I don’t dislike the D5, I’m just a bit disappointed that it looks more an overgrown car than I would like and has lost any Disco look.
Will I ever get one?, possibly.

Comedy was a horse, Harvey a dog, both sadly gone. Thought I was choosing a password!

Yep, feb sales fig, march press release
LR must be doing some serious navel gazing at the moment, to turn things around for the D5.

I will give you two out of many reasons
The dealer network is ridiculous,a few dealers along the coast and thats it.Strike trouble in the bush somewhere, and your in real trouble. The local mechanic won't even bother lifting the bonnet. And it is probably one of the most complicated vehicles on the road,so there are a lot of things that could go wrong.
No accessories,ARB,for one supplier, have said they have no intention to start R&D on any accessories. In Aus,we need solid cargo barriers,Bull bars, etc, etc.
And another, the price is pretty high. Many of the safety features are not standard,so once
added, substantially increase the vehicle price. Some of these features are standard on many $40K vehicles.
l
Sorry, land rover, but the other brands, particularly Toyota will continue on,with Land Cruisers 200 selling at a rate of around 12500 per year. And the 70 series at around 8500 per year.
Don't get me wrong,i love my D4,but it is soon up for replacement, and after having LR's for around 19 yrs, they now don't have a vehicle that suits my needs.I need an updated D4,not a RR.

I have always been happy with the reliability of my LR and the D5 should be good as well.
I find servicing can be painful as some dealerships are focused on the climate change believers crowd.
I am more interested in dealing with the mechanic to find out what he found during the service, instead of sitting in leather couches and drinking cappaucinos.
The option list price is ridiculous and when you weigh everything up, it’s just pushes you to look at Toyota LC200 or 70’s all with V8 diesels.
The depreciation on a fully optioned D5 is going to be frightening.
