Auto Box Problem

Ok try this one for size,

I have 2005 Auto with 80,000 miles, in the last couple of days it has had problems with finding a gear, it's only first thing in the morning when it happens. Drives away fine but when I come to the corner at the end of the road the engine revs but does not engage a gear, it's as if it's gone into neutral, foot of the gas and then half a second later it finds the gear and were off again, same happens again at the junction. If I stop completely it does'nt happen, only seems to happen at low speed when cold. There is no fault warning message when this happens either. I have also noticed that after driving the car, putting it in park and then trying to take the keys out of the ignition the keys won't release, I then have to push the gear leaver up just a touch and then the ignition will release the keys. Is this part of the same problem?

Has anyone else experienced this or know of the possible cause and solution.

Thanks in advance

Steve

PS. DG has already sent me this link as a possibilty. http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic31656.html

Looks like that How -To is going to be well used Rolling with laughter

If the gear lever is stiff to move, then it will be the lever pivot in the above link Thumbs Up

I've had that too. Soon fixed under warranty. The gear selector felt so much better afterwards but hadn't really noticed that it was getting stiff - probably because it did so slowly.

Sounds like this is happening to mine too: drove the D3 on Saturday for the first time in ages and it wouldn't go into (D)rive without a good shove. It didn't go into Neutral at any point, but the missus reports that it has been difficult to engage D for a few weeks now.

There is an issue with water fom the air conditioning washing the lubrication off the linkage causing the auto box linkage to become stiff. The application of some lubricant to the linkage may be all that is required to get round the problem.

Car went in today to be fixed, managed to get the pivot lever from Disco_Mikey Thumbs Up Anyway had a call about 2 hours later to say car is fixed and ready to collect. Tipped up and the tech smiled and handed me back the Pivot lever, I asked him why he had'nt fitted it and his reply was, "We took it all apart cleaned it applied some protective grease and put it back together." Hey presto all sorted, so again a big thank you to Disco_Mikey for the how to thread Bow down beacause it was this that I printed off and took into the tech.

Don't you love it when that happens. Fault on a car for ages, you get in it and question it and it turns out "...well I did wonder what the noise was, but it's been driving OK for the last month..." Wink

After a fun (!) Good Friday morning trawling around the DIY stores in Perth, the D3 kept going into neutral with alarming regularity. Looks like I have a problem linkage.
