AUTO BOX RESET

A couple of members have suggested that a reset isn't always a good idea. I've searched the site but no-one has reported any issues.
If there's a chance of damaging the box, I think it worthwhile we all know.
Disco-Mikey and Geoff know what they are doing and apparently don't routinely do a reset after a flush.
(thanks for that info Robbie)
Any comments please

It is a judgement call as it does carry risk; as such the owner's view has to be considered too.

Hi Geoff.
I guess its difficult to gauge how worn a box is, as symptoms probably sneak up slowly unnoticed.
I assume that a reset puts the box's electronics back to original, before it 'learnt' driving style, but surely that doesn't affect the actual mechanicals of the box.
What symptoms should I be looking for?

It does impact the mechanicals.

i look at milage , feed back from customer and my gut feeling , if the transmission internals are to far worn then resetting may cause problems , but like you say theres no real way to check so its down to instinct and feed back

Following on.... When I had the flush done appprox 80k the old fluid was black, new was cherry red IIRC,
I was now considering filter change, (and metal pan conversion) but now after discussion, wonder if filter change needed.

Bit late now I think, was done by 4-tech, who according to their website now don't touch modern vehicles.
I think I'll drop some of the oil to see what colour it is.

Depends when 4Tech did the flush - he did mine about 3 or 4 years ago using genuine oil - but prior to being able to get some did use an equivalent. Not sure how equivalent it was though.
