Auto Dimming Headlights

Ok so silly question time (and my first post) I have recently bought a 2015 Discovery 4 HSE. Would it have come equipped with the auto dimming headlights as standard? I can't seem to establish if the car has this feature/function.

Welcome.

You had better hope it does not have it - I have an MY13 D4 and it is truly the most horrid unreliable thing to use (or should I say trust).

Every third car coming towards you will blast you with their high beam because you were too slow at dipping yours. I tried on several winter mornings to live with it.

Nope. Pants Whistle

It can be activated in the vehicle menu (centre of the clocks menu on a D4).

From the D4 Handbook.

Auto high beam - This function automatically selects high beam, if ambient light levels are sufficiently low and no oncoming or preceding vehicles are within operational range. Note: It is recommended that auto high beam is not used while driving off-road.

This function is active only when selected via the vehicle settings menu. See VEHICLE INFORMATION AND SETTINGS MENU (page 37). To switch on auto high beam, the lamps master switch must be in the AUTO position and the column lever is in the low beam position.

If you have the owners handbook take a look at High Beam Assist - it will tell you were to activate it (if you have it installed) Thumbs Up

Welcome! If you are referring to High Beam Assist you can check if it is fitted in the vehicle set up menu on the dashboard. If fitted you have the option to enable /disable it via this menu. The headlight switch must be in the auto position and when the headlights are on and there is a green auto light symbol displayed to show it is in operation. Thumbs Up

I also have a 65 plate HSE. I don’t have auto high beam 🙂, so I don’t think it was a standard HSE feature.

Yep, I have it (auto dip / HBA) on mine and it was the first things I turned off. Easy to do as previously described. Another lazy feature - one should be paying attention to what's coming your way on the road ahead IMO.
In today's world, if you contribute something, you don't contribute enough. If you contribute nothing, you receive everything.

They were standard on my MY11 HSE so prob another example of continuous disimprovement. Thumbs Up

Mind you, they were utterly pants. My biggest complaint with them was when they’d shut down when I approached a street sign, afraid of their own shadow.

I really like it! A cheap retro-fit and then you can make your own mind up!
